Job Summary

The City of Saanich is seeking dedicated Traffic Control Persons (TCPs) and Lead Control Technicians (LCTs) to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic in various municipal projects and events. These roles are vital in maintaining safe work zones, directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and supporting city infrastructure initiatives. The positions offer an opportunity to contribute to community safety while working in a dynamic environment that values professionalism and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barriers in compliance with safety standards.
• Monitor work zones to ensure adherence to safety protocols and report any hazards or incidents promptly.
• Assist with the installation, removal, and relocation of traffic control equipment as needed.
• Collaborate with city staff, contractors, and the public to facilitate safe traffic movement.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and report daily activities to supervisors.

Skills

• Valid certification as a Traffic Control Person (TCP) or Lead Control Technician (LCT).
• Strong understanding of traffic control standards and safety regulations.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively direct traffic and interact with the public.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining focus on safety.
• Attention to detail for proper setup and maintenance of traffic control devices.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior experience in traffic management or construction is preferred but not mandatory; training will be provided for qualified candidates.
