As our team continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join our busy foreclosure and litigation team.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will support lawyers in managing collections, foreclosure, and civil litigation files. This is a fast-paced role that requires strong organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to independently monitor and advance files in accordance with procedural requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, draft, and review foreclosure and collections correspondence and court materials.
- Provide assistance with civil litigation files, including drafting pleadings, applications, affidavits, and other court documents.
- Monitor files proactively to ensure that all steps, deadlines, and court requirements are completed on time.
- Manage files from initial instruction through to enforcement or resolution.
- Conduct land titles searches, corporate searches, court searches, and related due diligence.
- Prepare application packages and coordinate filing, service, and scheduling with court clerks and process servers.
- Communicate with lenders, borrowers, opposing counsel, agents, and other stakeholders.
- Track file milestones, maintain detailed file notes, and update internal systems.
- Process payments, update ledgers, and assist with file accounting documentation as required.
- Maintain accurate physical and electronic file records in accordance with firm policies and Law Society standards.
- Provide general administrative support to lawyers in both foreclosure and civil litigation matters.
Qualifications
- Legal Assistant or Paralegal Certificate/Diploma required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in foreclosure, collections, or civil litigation required.
- Strong understanding of Alberta foreclosure procedures and court processes.
- Excellent drafting, proofreading, and document management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal practice management/document automation software.
- Ability to manage multiple files, monitor deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills and a client-service oriented approach.
- Professional, reliable, and detail-focused.
