Regional Director of Day Camps plays a pivotal role within the full-time camps team, supporting 7 Day Camp locations and providing direct supervision to Coordinator team and onsite staff. This dynamic position involves collaborating with community partners, overseeing budget creation and management, and leading staff recruitment, hiring, and training efforts. By ensuring the seamless day-to-day operation of Day Camp programs, the role guarantees a safe and enriching environment where children, youth, and staff can thrive, fostering personal growth and leadership development

In this role, you will:

  • Hire and oversee a child-focused, well-balanced, qualified, and dedicated Senior Staff team, ensuring all team members meet role requirements before their contract start dates.
  • Lead the camp staff team by monitoring performance, providing coaching and mentorship, offering continuous feedback, and conducting mid-summer and end-of-summer appraisals to ensure role expectations and personal goals are met.
  • Deliver staff trainings and meetings, working with the Regional Director team and Camp Managers to create and deliver high-quality, engaging training for the Camp Senior Staff team.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed and maintained; organize and maintain the Camp Office to meet Health and Safety requirements.
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time, including paperwork associated with hiring, finance, and other assigned duties.
  • Execute camp promotion and strategic marketing plans, working with the Camp Manager to ensure camper targets are met.
  • Manage staff teams and camper behaviours by working with Coordinator team and Camp Managers.
  • Deliver camp programs that align with program descriptions and meet parents' expectations. Communicate with Program Coordinators, visit each camp at least 3–4 times during the summer, and ensure safe, high-quality, engaging, creative, and fun programs are delivered.
  • Communicate with parents and staff by checking email and voicemail daily, responding to inquiries courteously and promptly (within 24 hours), and ensuring Camp Directors follow up on camper/staff escalations while informing Regional Managers as needed.
  • Support the Camp Manager to inventory stock, organize camp program materials, office supplies, and other necessary items before and during the summer to ensure high-quality program delivery.
  • Monitor expenditures to achieve assigned budgets, ensure purchases align with the camp budget, and submit all receipts and invoices to the Camp Manager by assigned deadlines.
  • Act as a positive role model for children, youth, and staff by embodying YMCA values, following YMCA day camp guidelines, YMCA policies and procedures, OCA standards, and High Five Standards.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs by maintaining knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures, child and youth development, and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:

  • Post-secondary education in recreation or a related field; minimum 2-year diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in Outdoor Education or a Camp environment.
  • Hold a current Standard First Aid and CPR-C with CPR-C required.
  • Experience in Day Camps; YMCA Day Camps experience is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, insurance, and access to a vehicle; willing to travel within the region.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion, and equity, including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design.
