Who we need
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Engineering and Data Governance, we are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of Scene+'s data ecosystem. You will build and optimize the pipelines, models, and workflows that power analytics, loyalty strategy, partner insights, and enterprise decision-making across millions of members and dozens of partners. By introducing modern engineering approaches, automation patterns, and architectural improvements that accelerate our maturity, you will elevate the performance, reliability, and governance of our cloud-native platform.
This is an opportunity to influence technical direction, collaborate deeply across analytics, marketing, product, and governance teams, and strengthen our organization's ability to operate from high-quality, trustworthy, insight-ready data.
This is a hybrid role, working three days a week in our Toronto office.
What is in it for you
Leadership and impact. You will operate inside one of Canada's largest customer ecosystems, with millions of members and multi-partner data flowing through the systems you build. Your engineering decisions will directly shape how Scene+ understands loyalty behaviour, drives partner value, and scales its next chapter of growth.
Operational excellence. You will work at the core of a modern cloud-native environment -Snowflake, AWS, Matillion, Salesforce Data Cloud - driving automation, governance, and performance improvements that strengthen the entire analytics foundation.
Ownership. You will help define the blueprint for Scene+'s next-generation data platform modernizing CI/CD, strengthening observability, improving lineage and metadata frameworks, and advancing engineering standards across the organization. You will own meaningful components of the platform and leave a lasting architectural imprint.
Technical challenges. You will work with massive datasets, rapidly evolving partners, and an ecosystem undergoing significant expansion. This is an opportunity to solve complex problems at national scale designing systems that must be resilient, automated, and capable of supporting the next wave of growth across Canada.
Accelerated professional growth. You will 10X your technical experience, gaining breadth and depth across cloud platforms, data transformation tools, orchestration patterns, CI/CD, and scalable architecture. You will gain visibility with senior leadership, lead complex technical discussions, and build the influence, communication, and architectural depth required to step into future technical or people-lead roles.
As our new Senior Data Engineer, you will:
- Ensure operational data excellence. You will architect, maintain, and refine production-grade pipelines, ensuring they are performant, resilient, and scalable. You will automate workflows end-to-end, proactively identify and resolve issues, and continuously improve data quality. You will centralize data into Snowflake and transform it into analytics-ready structures that power the organization. You will write, debug, and operate production code using Python, SQL, and cloud-native tools, applying rigorous engineering practices including code reviews, branching strategies, and CI/CD pipelines. You will provide clear and timely updates to stakeholders on proposed solutions, timelines, progress, and any challenges that may arise.
- Support strategic data governance. You will champion the creation of high-quality, well-documented, trustworthy data. You will work closely with privacy, security, and compliance teams to strengthen governance practices across key areas, including metadata, lineage, classification, and access management. You will help evaluate tools, frameworks, and standards that enhance the visibility, reliability, and structure of enterprise data. You will ensure all data solutions meet organizational control and compliance requirements, balancing speed with long-term stability and governance.
- Enable analytics and data science. You will design the foundational tables, models, and workflows that allow analytics and data science teams to work efficiently and holistically. You will unify data from disparate systems and ensure it is structured in a way that facilitates accelerated insights and informed decision-making. You will design and enhance integrations with internal and external APIs, ensuring reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability. You will continuously identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual effort, and scale analytical capabilities.
- Manage technology. You will work across our cloud-native ecosystem, including AWS, Snowflake, Matillion Data Productivity Cloud, Tableau Cloud, Salesforce Data Cloud, Salesforce Loyalty Management, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud, optimizing performance, recommending improvements, and contributing to architectural evolution. You will also support our transition to modern orchestration patterns using Airflow (or similar), strengthening automation, monitoring, and system-wide reliability.
You bring:
- The data expertise. You have extensive experience as a senior data engineer working with large and complex datasets. You excel at designing and building scalable data pipelines, optimizing data models, and automating workflows to drive efficiency and effectiveness. You have strong experience with Snowflake, Python, SQL, and cloud platforms - preferably AWS -and have hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools (Matillion experience is an asset but not required). You understand data governance, best practices for documentation, observability, and data quality assurance.
- The technical skills. You set a high standard for engineering quality and demonstrate a strong command of modern data engineering practices. You are comfortable designing end-to-end solutions, improving CI/CD processes, and applying best-in-class development patterns. You are a clear and confident presenter who can translate technical concepts across diverse audiences and collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external vendors.
- The project management skills. You can manage multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing scope, expectations, and timelines. You communicate proactively, identify risks early, and keep teams aligned. You can adapt plans, respond to evolving business needs, and consistently deliver high-quality work in a dynamic environment.
- The leadership skills. You are an engineering leader who thrives in complex, high-scale environments and sees data infrastructure as a strategic asset, not just a technical function. You are a proven partner and collaborator who can influence without authority, elevate technical decisions, and help shape the culture of engineering excellence. You can build trust quickly, communicate with clarity, and bring an analytical, solutions-focused mindset to every challenge. You demonstrate the capability and ambition to grow into a leadership role, while excelling as a senior technical contributor who raises the performance of the entire team.
Join us.
We are a dynamic and agile organization that works collaboratively to anticipate and meet the business needs of our partners and the lifestyle needs of our members. People who thrive at Scene+ are mission-driven and eager to contribute to a brand that's shaping the future of loyalty. As part of our team, you will excel in an environment that values ownership and practical, intelligent solutions. You will have the chance to create and refine processes, identify and address challenges with scalable solutions, and introduce best practices that drive our success.
