ESL Instructor – IELTS & Test Preparation

Location: New Westminster, BC (In-person at IH Vancouver)

Position Type: Casual / Seasonal / On-Call

Salary: From $20.00-$25.00 per hour (Negotiable based on experience)

About the Role:

International House Vancouver is now accepting applications for experienced ESL instructors to join our dynamic teaching team. We are particularly seeking teachers with expertise in IELTS and other test preparation courses, as well as experience providing individual tutoring and academic coaching.

Reporting to the Senior Education Administrator, instructors deliver engaging, communicative English lessons to adult international students in our full-time and part-time English programs. Teaching may include general ESL, test preparation, or 1-on-1 private lessons depending on student demand and scheduling.

Schedule:

Classes run Monday to Friday, between 9:00 a.m to 3:20 p.m. Shifts and course assignments may vary based on enrollment and program needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver communicative, learner-centered English lessons to adult international students.
  • Teach IELTS, test preparation, and/or Business English courses when required.
  • Provide personalized 1-on-1 tutoring focused on student goals and test performance.
  • Create engaging lesson plans that integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  • Assess and monitor student progress through quizzes, projects, and feedback.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.

Qualifications:

  • TESL Canada Level 1 (CELTA or equivalent preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree (required).
  • Minimum 1 year of ESL teaching experience (international or domestic).
  • Experience teaching IELTS or other standardized test preparation courses (preferred).
  • Experience with individual tutoring or private instruction (an asset).
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse student needs and cultural backgrounds.

Work Location:

In-person at IH Vancouver.

Applicants must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work.
