Job OverviewWe are a dedicated foster care family in Ottawa seeking a compassionate and experienced DSW to provide in-home medical support for a medically fragile child in a one on one setting. This role is pivotal in ensuring the health and well-being of our foster child, who has unique medical and emotional needs. The pace of work is significantly more relaxed than a normal hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Medication Administration: Safely administer prescribed medications (Nasogastric (NG) tube feeding etc.), ensuring accurate dosage and thorough documentation.
  • Personal Care: bed bathing, dressing, Nasogastric (NG) tube feeding, toileting, and suctioning, among other daily activities.
  • Monitoring & Assessment: Track vital signs, observe health changes, and communicate concerns to the healthcare team.
  • Mobility & Positioning: Assist with safe transfers and proper positioning using assistive devices.
  • Respiratory Care: Provide oxygen therapy, suctioning, and support for respiratory function; manage BiPAP use.
  • Nutrition: Assist with meal prep and feeding, manage feeding tubes, and ensure hydration and nutritional needs are met.
  • Specialized Support: Experience or willingness to manage conditions including sialorrhea, BiPAP dependence, and urinary retention requiring clean intermittent catheterization (CIC).

Responsibilities

  • Provide home care services that ensure a safe and comfortable living environment.
  • Administer medication as prescribed and monitor clients for any changes in health status.
  • Support individuals with disabilities in achieving personal goals and improving their independence.
  • Engage clients in social and recreational activities to promote well-being and community involvement.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the living space to ensure a healthy environment.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and other caregivers to develop personalized care plans.
  • Document client progress and report any concerns or changes in behavior or health.

Qualifications

  • Experience in caregiving, home care, or related fields is preferred.
  • Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of medication administration protocols is beneficial.
  • Previous experience in nursing homes or assisted living facilities is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • A compassionate approach to patient care, demonstrating empathy and patience at all times.
  • Ability to perform light cleaning duties as part of maintaining a safe environment for clients.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.

Qualifications: Post-secondary education in Developmental Service Work (DSW) and knowledge of total care clients care preferred. Training is provided to the right candidate.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Schedule:

  • Evening shift
  • Monday to Friday ( Weekends as needed)
