Forestry and Parks is responsible for managing our forests, public lands and provincial parks. Our Ministry accountabilities include:
- Growing Alberta's environmentally responsible wood products and forestry sector
- Protecting Alberta's forests from wildfire
- Preserving our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans
- Enabling access to public lands for recreation and purposes while prioritizing conservation

*Role Responsibilities*
Are you passionate about environmental stewardship and eager to make a positive impact on public land ecosystems? We are seeking a dedicated Weed Management Crew Lead to play a crucial role in our Terrestrial Invasive Species Program. In this dynamic position, you will be responsible for coordinating and executing field data collection and weed control efforts, ensuring the effective management of invasive species. Your expertise will be pivotal in maintaining partnerships with municipalities, counties, and NGOs, contributing to the success of our biocontrol initiatives.
As a Weed Management Crew Lead, you will lead weed inventory fieldwork, coordinate weed control measures, and provide valuable training on weed identification. Proficiency in tools like EDDMapS and ArcGIS will be essential as you manage data entry, conduct quality assurance, and analyze trends to contribute to the Annual Terrestrial Invasive Species Program Report. Your role extends beyond technical aspects, involving collaboration with local stakeholders, governments, and the public to address issues related to terrestrial invasive species.
This position holds significance for public land users, influencing the improvement of recreation experiences by controlling invasive weeds. Qualifications
Required:
- A two-year technical diploma in Environmental Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Proficient in weed identification through hands-on experience.
- Experience working alone in remote locations.
- Experience in weed inventory, control, and biocontrol programs.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered based on

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year education
Additional Requirements

- Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver's License and 3-years Driver's Abstract
- A valid Standard First Aid certificate with CPR Level C and AED certification.
- Current Defensive Driving Certificate
Assets
- Proficiency in data analysis tools, especially EDD Maps and ArcGIS.
- Alberta Pesticide Applicator License.
- Possesses some supervisory experience.
- OHV/ATV training.
- Trailering experience.
- Mechanical aptitude.

- This competition is recruiting for four seasonal wage positions located in Red deer (2) and Lethbridge hours per week
- Length of employment is approximately four months (April/May through August/September), with one position lasting approximately eight months starting in April.

What We Offer
- Wage employees receive 11.6% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of paid holidays and vacation leave:
- 5.6% of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
- 6% of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay
Shift differential and opportunity to work overtime, evening, and weekend shifts
