Job Summary
Ray-Z Plumbing & Heating is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee the full accounting cycle, including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger entries. This role requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently, utilizing QuickBooks to maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in supporting the financial health of our growing business. This position reports directly to the leadership team and is based in Calgary, Alberta.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management and Reporting
- Manage the full accounting cycle to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Utilize QuickBooks to record transactions, generate financial reports, and manage budgets.
2. Payroll and Compliance
- Process payroll for employees, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations.
- Ensure adherence to Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations, including GST/HST filings.
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial data and sensitive company information.
3. Accounts Receivable and Payable
- Oversee accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, and reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable, processing vendor payments and tracking expenses accurately.
- Conduct account reconciliations to resolve discrepancies promptly and maintain accuracy.
4. General Ledger Maintenance
- Maintain and update general ledger entries with precision to ensure accurate financial records.
- Monitor and verify financial transactions to support the integrity of the general ledger.
- Reconcile accounts regularly to identify and correct errors or inconsistencies.
5. Budgeting and Financial Analysis
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic business decisions.
- Identify trends and provide insights to leadership to optimize financial performance.
- Support the development of financial strategies to drive business growth.
6. Audit and Process Improvement
- Prepare documentation and provide support for external audits to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Implement best practices to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of financial operations.
7. Collaboration and Support
- Work independently while reporting directly to the leadership team to align financial activities with company goals.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support the financial health of Ray-Z Plumbing & Heating.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate financial data integration and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of accounting experience, preferably at least 2 years in the plumbing, heating, or construction industry.
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks for full-cycle accounting.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations (e.g., GST, payroll taxes).
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve financial discrepancies.
- Excellent time management skills to meet tight deadlines (e.g., month-end, tax filings).
- Effective communication skills to liaise with vendors, management, and external stakeholders.
- Experience with construction industry accounting, such as job costing, is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Work Environment
- Location: Calgary, Alberta (on-site position).

- Full-time position, Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime during month-end or year-end closings.
