Sr. Security and Cloud Systems Administrator
to join our Information Technology team.
Under the authority of the
Professional Engineers Act
, PEO licenses and governs over 91,500 licence and certificate holders and regulates the practice of professional engineering in Ontario. PEO's mission is to regulate and advance the practice of engineering to protect the public interest. With a talented, multidisciplinary staff of over 100, PEO's vision is to be a trusted leader in professional self-regulation.
Position Summary
The Senior Security and Cloud Systems Administrator is responsible for the implementation, management, and security of PEO's cloud and on-premises infrastructure. This role works closely with managed security and infrastructure service providers; and requires advanced technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to safeguarding PEO's assets and data. The position also serves as a technical expert in systems administration, ensuring appropriate infrastructure and security systems are in place, and assists in developing risk assessments, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans.
Responsibilities
- Work independently to architect, deploy, and maintain cloud-based solutions (e.g., Microsoft Azure, M365, Co-Pilot, VMware, Pantheon, Cloudflare) for high availability, scalability, and performance.
- Manage cloud (public & private) and on-premises infrastructure, including asset management, backups, and recovery.
- Develop, implement, and monitor security policies, procedures, and controls for cloud and on-premises systems.
- Proactively review firewall rules and identify/mitigate vulnerabilities, threats, and risks.
- Lead investigation and response to security and infrastructure incidents.
- Manage user identities, roles, and permissions across cloud and hybrid environments.
- Assist with regular security audits and assessments.
- Oversee configuration, patching, and maintenance of servers, storage, and networking components.
- Perform incident, problem, event, change, capacity management, and request fulfillment.
- Conduct risk assessments for technology deployments and implement mitigation plans.
- Research, plan, and implement IT infrastructure projects and strategies.
- Benchmark, analyze, and recommend improvements for IT infrastructure and systems.
- Automate provisioning, monitoring, and management tasks using scripting and Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
- Implement and manage monitoring solutions; generate regular reports on infrastructure and security.
- Collaborate with development, operations, and business teams; provide training on security best practices.
- Mentor junior IT Operations Team members.
- Liaise with managed services providers, technology, and support vendors to inform architecture and support problem solving
- Stay current with emerging technologies and risks; recommend and implement improvements.
- Establish standards, tools, processes, and documentation for the team.
- Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Microsoft Server OS, Windows environment, Office/O365, Azure, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, Active Directory, Cloud Technologies, Server Hardware, Network/storage solutions, Network administration, VMware, Wi-Fi Technologies, IT Security Frameworks, ITIL.

Education/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in computer science or related field, or equivalent
- 5-10 years of experience in systems, network, O365, Azure, and VMware administration
- ITIL background
- AWS and Linux experience are assets
