We are a small, independent optometric clinic located in the heart of downtown Toronto, and we're looking for a friendly, reliable, and hard-working Optometric Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis. This position will be responsible for a variety of tasks, assisting the optometrist during appointments, and providing excellent customer service to our patients.

While optometric experience is preferred, it is not a requirement. We are looking for someone who is personable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and check in patients and visitors.
  • Process insurance claims, handle cash and card transactions, and assist with returns.
  • Assist with placing and processing contact lens orders.
  • Help with retinal imaging scans and the autorefractor machine.
  • Perform general administrative duties, such as booking appointments, recalls, and sending referrals.
  • Answer phone calls, emails, and patient inquiries.
  • Provide teaching and support to new contact lens wearers.
  • Assist with social media marketing and promoting the clinic online.
  • Manage end-of-day closing tasks and general office clean-up on designated days.
  • Handle OHIP, ODSP, OW, and IFHP-related transactions.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic math skills (for handling transactions and billing).
  • Organized, responsible, and attentive to detail.
  • Able to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.
  • Experience in optometry is an asset, but not required.

Position Details:

  • This is a temporary position, from December 17 to December 31, 2025.
  • Hours and salary will be based on experience.
