Position: Clerk Typist

Department: Records Processing

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) 0.6

The Clerk Typist role focuses on the organization and management of all paper documentation that must be made part of the legal medical record. Responsibilities include collecting and organizing paper documentation from all inpatient units and outpatient departments, as well as scanning and maintaining secure physical and electronic records on an ongoing basis. Clerk typists routinely perform audit functions to ensure medical records are of the highest quality and any documentation errors are caught and corrected as soon as possible. Clerk Typists must routinely interact with patients, members of the public and other staff within the organization as they serve as the first contact for anyone requesting access or disclosure of medical records.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Graduate of a Community College in the Medical Office Administration Program or equivalent required
  • Medical Terminology required
  • Keyboarding (45 WPM/95% accuracy) and data entry (6000 KPH/95% accuracy) skills required
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of Medical Records automated systems required
  • Knowledge of current privacy legislation required
  • Previous recent experience in a Clinical Records setting required

Skills/Abilities:

  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Excellent filing skills required
  • Must demonstrate commitment to ensure their safety, the safety of fellow workers, patients, volunteers, and visitors
  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset.
