Accounting Technician
The Opportunity
Working with and reporting to the Supervisor of Accounting Services, Horizon School Division is seeking a dynamic and intuitive individual to join our accounting team.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting fundamentals with experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable;
- Strong problem solving skills;
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information;
- Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills;
- Computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency in Excel;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Service oriented thinking;
- Self-motivated;
- Adaptable to change;
- Ability to manage time, prioritize daily work and meet assigned deadlines;
- Multi-tasking ability; and
- Ability to work as a team player with all levels of internal staff and vendors.
Education, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
- Possesses a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and maintenance of general ledgers.
- Experience in the public sector would be considered an asset.
- Combination of 3-5 years of relevant post-secondary education and experience
- Commitment to continuous learning and motivation for personal growth.
Education, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
- Possesses an Undergraduate Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Holding or working towards a professional accounting designation (CPA) would be an asset; an equivalent combination of practical training and experience would be considered.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
- Possesses a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable and maintenance of general ledgers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to lead a team.
- Experience with ERP systems would be considered an asset.
- Experience in the public sector and application of PSAB would be considered an asset.

You care about quality, accuracy, and paying attention to detail, yet you can also see the big picture and how multiple elements of the work fit together. You work effectively in a team as well as independently and succeed with minimal supervision. You are always looking for ways to improve what we do and strive to continually provide superior support to both our Schools and Board of Education.
This position will commence on a mutually agreed upon date. Interviews will be scheduled once a suitable pool of candidates is established.
