Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Team leader the Senior Housekeeping Aide is responsible for assisting in the smooth running of the housekeeping department. 

Accountability:  The Senior Housekeeping Aide will report directly to the designated Team Leader. 

Schedule: Call-in, early morning, late evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays 

Position Type: Full-time 

Posting Type: This is existing position 

Salary Range: $56,576 to $75,992 

Location: Sioux Lookout, ON.

Qualifications:
  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
  • The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.
  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
  • Written and oral communication skills acceptable to the employer that meet the requirements of the role of Senior Housekeeping Aide
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a housekeeping position, preferably with supervisory responsibilities and in a health care setting.
  • Position involves long periods of standing, and some heavy lifting. (20 lbs.)
  • The ability to work independently, as well as in a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with ability to motivate employees.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Assist Team leader / Oversee all housekeeping within designated SLFNHA hostel.
  • Assist with monitoring and managing Housekeeping Aides, ensuring that they are performing their duties effectively and efficiently.
  • Attend/Provide regular housekeeping training to staff including but not limited to health and Safety hostel/department policy and other training/workshops as designated.
  • Conduct/assist with housekeeping staff meetings.
  • Assume a primary role in channeling communications between Housekeeping and Accommodations.
  • Ensure all "Housekeeping Aides" engage with clients and provide an excellent client experience.
  • Complete all duties of a Housekeeping Aide as set out in the Housekeeping Aide job description.
  • In Team Leader absence, cover duties of Team Leader, and provide regular updates to CSD Management, additionally act as cover for other Senior Housekeeping staff in their absence.
  • Assume the role of ensuring quality control by inspecting rooms following both "check-out" and "stay" cleanings.
  • Responsible for taking reasonable care to protect the Health and Safety of yourself and others, by practicing and promoting safe work habits, by using personal protective equipment and reporting unsafe acts or conditions to your supervisor.
  • Responsible for the inspection of rooms for various pests and respond appropriately to the discovery of pest activity. In conjunction with the Team Leader, coordinate and communicate with NW Pest Control in terms of arranging regular inspections and whatever mitigations are required.
  • Assume primary responsibility for steam-cleaning and maintaining carpets throughout the building and in all rooms.
  • Supervise and coordinate Sharps collection of disposal boxes in the rooms, staff, and public washrooms.
  • Request supplies or pick up supplies as needed.
  • Participate in the hiring of new Housekeeping Aides.
  • Fill out maintenance requisitions or call maintenance with concerns and equipment breakdowns.
  • Participate in and monitor quality improvement projects and audits.
  • To be flexible in the job routine and be challenged by new requests and ongoing changes to the job as delegated by the Manager or other departments as needed.
  • Other "special projects" as assigned.
  • Attend all meetings as required.
  • All of duties assigned by your supervisor and management team.
