Do you have a solid background in law enforcement and/or regulatory investigations? If so, the Law Enforcement and Oversight Branch has an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional with exceptional investigative and auditing abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate complaints alleging violations under:
- Security Services and Investigators Act
- Peace Officer Act
- Body Armour Control Act
- Monitor and advise on public complaints and incidents.
- Conduct field investigations and site visits.
- Prepare detailed written reports outlining findings and recommendations.
- Provide oversight on appeals related to:
- Public complaints against peace officers
- Allegations of excessive use of force
- Other serious incidents
- Perform audits on licensed agencies including:
- Security
- Investigator
- Locksmith
- Peace Officer agencies
- Ensure compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations.
- Prepare court briefs for investigations or audits involving legal action.
- Liaise with Crown Prosecutors and provide evidence in court proceedings.
As the ideal candidate, you will put your superior communication skills to work in establishing and maintaining professional working relationships between the department and external agencies in order to develop rapport and share information. A university degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law Enforcement, or related field plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience conducting investigations in a law enforcement or regulatory environment is required for this position.
Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
Requirements of this position include:
• Eligability to obtain and maintain a Peace Officer appointment
• Valid Alberta driver's license (Class 5)
Preference will be given to those with the following:
• An investigative background with verifiable experience performing complex investigations and major case management.
• Plain clothes investigative experience in a Detective Unit or General Investigation Section.
• Experience composing analytical legal correspondence and/or reports.

There is one full time permanent position available, working Monday-Friday from 8:15am-4:30pm.
Please note this position requires extensive travel throughout the province. Final candidates for this position will also be asked to undergo a criminal records security screening and a professional standards screening.
