CSW (Community Support Worker)
Location: Edmonton and surrounding area
Community Support Workers (CSWs) report to the Program Supervisor and provide person-centered, therapeutic care to individuals with complex and non-complex developmental disabilities.

This role goes beyond day-to-day support, the role requires supporting with personal care and peri-care in a way that upholds privacy, consent, and dignity at all times.
Perineal or Peri-care defined: Is the cleaning of the genital and anal areas to maintain hygiene and prevent infections, skin breakdown, and odors. Examples of Peri-care are; bathing, toileting, incontinence care, and hygiene routines
CSWs foster meaningful community connections, encourage personal growth, and facilitate achievable goals that strengthen daily living skills. They play a vital role in ensuring safety, dignity, and respect while helping individuals live as independently as possible.
Available Schedules:
- Day (7:30am - 3:30pm) 6 days on, 3 days off
- Evening (3:00pm - 11:00pm) 6 days on, 3 days off
- Overnight Awake (10:30pm - 8:00am) 6 days on, 3 days off
- Temporary Casual (minimum three shifts per month)

A Day in the Life
Care Support
- Support individuals to achieve 3 ISP goals per care plan cycle, documenting progress in Nurture.
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and dignity-focused environment in line with care plans.
- Promote health and wellness by encouraging healthy routines, physical activity, and positive coping strategies.
- Encourage independent personal hygiene practices wherever possible.
- Build meaningful relationships through companionship, emotional support, social interaction, and activities.
- Ensure PDD care plans are followed exactly; any changes must be promptly notified to the Supervisor.
Community and Daily Living Skills
- Facilitate community inclusion by modeling respect and fostering positive relationships with community partnerships.
- Assist with meal planning and preparation, following the Canada Food Guide, Indigenous Food Guide, or specific dietary needs.
- Support adults in appointments, errands, and outings, ensuring all follow-up actions are documented and completed.
- Encourage skill-building in housekeeping, grocery shopping, budgeting, and other daily living activities.
What You Bring To The Table
- Direct experience working with persons with developmental disabilities in home-based or community support settings
- Knowledge of disability support, Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) standards, and Community Disability Services (CDS) sector guidelines
- Experience supporting individuals with complex needs and autism
- Understanding and practice of person-centered, strengths-based care
- Diploma or Degree in Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Community Rehabilitation, or related field (asset)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with technology and documentation
Compliance Regulated Requirements
- An active Alberta Class 5 Driver's License
- A clear Alberta 10-year Driver's Abstract (10 years driving experience is not required)
- A current Standard/Intermediate First Aid with CPR Level C (Canadian Provider in person, or blended online/in-person)
- $2 Million Alberta Auto Insurance Liability coverage
- Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check obtained in last 5 months
- Clear Intervention Record Check obtained from Children Services in last 5 months
Regulated Physical Requirements
To perform this role, you must be able to:
- Walk and stand for extended periods, including long distances
- Bend, kneel, crouch, and maintain balance to prevent falls
- Work in varied environments, including outdoor and seasonal conditions
- Lift, push, or pull up to 10 lbs occasionally; reach overhead and outward
- Perform fine motor tasks (typing, grasping, holding) and repetitive movements
- Communicate verbally and maintain physical stamina for both short and long durations
