Job DescriptionUnder senior management oversight in your new role as Area General Manager, you are an Acute Care SME in EVS services. You will work with your experience supporting Acute & Non-Acute Care facilities through their Environmental Services programs. You have worked with busy sites, infection control, led a very strong safety culture and managed unionized employees. In your new role, you will provide operational leadership, direction, and guidance to a regional operations team within a segment(s). The role serves as the primary representative for client accounts in the assigned area or district, leads and participates in retention and growth activities within their area of responsibility. The role is accountable and responsible for financial performance, policy and process compliance, health and safety performance, talent management and strategic initiatives. The work covers multiple services or technical areas at multiple clients for a district of moderate complexity/risk/ impact to achieve mid- and long-term results and leads through multiple layers of management.
How You'll Make an Impact:
- Provides Strategic Leadership in Client/Customer Service Delivery
- Provides operational leadership to an assigned region to ensure compliance with operational initiatives and to meet client satisfaction.
- Develops the district strategic plan and provides input to region/ segment strategic plans
- Owns / manages client contracts; translates region / segment plans into mid- and long-term district plans; oversees broadly impacting district-level solutions delivery
- Plans and prioritizes district goals/ activities
- Leads new client site openings/ client site closings
- Interprets / analyses / reports information / data and/or synthesizes outputs from others to understand/ influence the clients' business strategies and to report/ manage district results
- Understands and proactively addresses high complexity mid and long-term multiple-client needs; identifies trends in needs; begins to translate clients' strategic mid- and long-term needs into results
- Ensures quality standards set by regulatory bodies and client contracts are achieved across the district
- Visits and inspects current accounts, provides objective feedback based on operational standards.
- Monitors and supports the use of Sodexo management systems and programs.
- Provides input to corporate strategic plans
- Oversees resolution of issues, ensures escalated issues are resolved in alignment with operational plans: Leads the resolution of contentious/ sensitive operational/ technical issues of considerable complexity/ risk/ impact; escalates broadly impacting issues to higher levels and prioritizes and follows through on issues
- Leads and manages district-level procedure and continuous process improvements; provides recommendations for the development/ improvement of policies; Promotes innovation/ continuous improvement within the district
Oversees District Financials
- Accountable for developing/managing clients and internal operational budgets
- Anticipates and proactively manages budget management issues
- Approves capital expenditures with authorization level
- Develops New Business and Participates in Sales Process / Client contracts decisions and accountability
- Participates in costing/ negotiating contracts at new clients;
- Develops new business and costs/ negotiates/ recommends for approval new contracts at existing clients and renewed client contracts for own district; oversees client contract changes for own district
- Develops, Manages and Maintains Relationships: Internal
- Develops and manages collaborative relationships with multiple-level contacts including senior management across multiple departments inside and outside of the unit to:
- present information to senior management and potentially executive levels to enable decisions
- report/ communicate highly complex and highly specialized and potentially sensitive management information
- proactively respond to systemic client service delivery/ people issues/ problems by seeking advice and interpretation of policies and facilitating access to internal resources advise on systemic client/ industry risks
Develops, Manages and Maintains Relationships
- Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with multiple-level client contacts to promote the organization's brand and services, identify business opportunities within the district, participate in selling new business, nurture multiple-client relationships, lead client retention initiatives/ meetings, deal with escalated service delivery/ people management/ safety issues and facilitate interaction with internal subject matter experts
- Has transactional consumer contact to investigate/ rectify escalated issues
- Develops working relationships with vendor contacts to manage vendor contracts and resolve vendor performance issues
- Has transactional interactions with government/ regulatory bodies to deal with issues/ manage risks; participates at government/ regulatory hearings/ tribunals/ committees; participates in union negotiations
- Develops and manages relationships with external partners to deal with escalated issues
Human Resources
- Leads district safety improvement programs / audits with focus on high risk / high caution units
- Proactive operations risk management across the district; reviews periodic reports and provides feedback to in-unit managers.
- Follows up on serious cases to ensure all reasonable corrective action are researched and implemented
- Leads emergency response planning initiatives for the district and oversees emergency responses for the district
- Liaises with senior levels internally and may manage/ coordinate client communications/ relationship management
- Manages the effective resourcing of the district and makes recommendations regarding headcount; collaborates to ensure the integration of resources to achieve goals
- Hires and terminates employees with approvals; may approve hiring/ termination recommendations of others; manages escalated high complexity/ risk labour/ employee relations issues
- Leadership – People Development
- Coaches, trains and mentors employees; ensures district has skills and talent to achieve strategy/ goals
- Provides recommendations to the identification of high performers/ participates in succession planning
- Performs required performance management program and career planning activities/ processes
- Leadership – Supporting Engagement
- Supports and leads engagement initiatives at the district level; accountable for engagement within the district
- Leadership – Technical Development
- Maintains own expertise by keeping current on trends in professional/ technical area of specialization; develops and maintains broad business acumen/ financial fluency and deep industry/ segment knowledge
- Shares professional and technical expertise within own district
- Ensures subject matter expertise and professional/ technical knowledge within district is up to date with trends, technologies and industry best practices
- Development of and Compliance with Policies and Procedures
- Manages issues which fall outside of guidelines, procedures, processes, and policies; regularly uses past experience and collaboration with experts/ specialists
- May approve low risk exceptions outside policies or may escalate moderate risk exceptions outside policies with recommendations to more senior levels
- Accountable for ensuring policies are in place to support compliance with legislation and the organization's operational goals
- Post secondary education, ideally in business management, hospitality, facilities management, engineering. Equivalent experience and education may be considered.
- Minimum 10 years in similar or progressive roles in healthcare spaces (Acute Care and Long Term Care)
- Experience in working in unionized / non unionized environments; Experience in managing and negotiating collective bargaining agreements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience managing safety programs, return to work/modified duties programs and strong familiarity with WCB/COR Audits and other related safety programs
- Minimum 7 years in progressive leadership, supervisory, and managerial roles.
- High level of proficiency in MS office suite applications
- Project Management & Project analysis: Ability to read, analyze, interpret and forecast a project's cost reports and determine the status of the job regarding schedule and costing
- Strong financial management experience; budget creation, forecasting, interpreting financial data (profit and loss statements)
- Ability to pass both a standard background check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid drivers license
