Experienced Seamstress

Laura Jayne Accessories has an immediate part-time opportunity for an experienced seamstress / sewist to help with the production of wedding veils.

Tasks involved in this position include, but are not limited to:

• Gather and finish veils by machine, hand sew to combs.
• Machine sew trims to wedding veils.
• Light beading, some hand-sewn, some glued.
• Inspect and press items from production partners prior to finishing.
• Tag, fold and pack products for shipping, performing quality control checks.
• Work quickly and maintain focus to meet production deadlines.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace to promote safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Experience using domestic sewing machines (must have); experience with rolled hems on serger is nice to have, but not essential.
• Neat, quick hand-finishing skills.
• Good communication - ability to understand basic written and spoken English.
• Above average attention to detail to execute finely finished work.
• Experience sewing delicate fabrics like satin, organza, tulle and other fine fabrics is nice to have, but not essential
• Positive and helpful; eager to learn, open to constructive feedback

Schedule:

• Typical schedule is Tuesday & Wednesday afternoons, 11 or 12- 5pm, with a possible 3rd or 4th shift during busy season; on site in South London, Wortley Village area.

Approx hours/weekly.

• This is an ongoing part-time job. Most candidates have related sewing experience, but need training on our specific products.

It can take a few weeks to build up to the regular schedule since not all projects are suitable for training, however, once you are up and running there's always plenty of work to do.

• After a minimum of 3 months training, there may be opportunity for *some* work from home, if you have a dedicated sewing area in a clean and pet-free home.

Most work will always be done on site, this is *not* a work from home job.

Our products are delicate & we are in a specific niche of the fashion industry, so most candidates will have related experience, but not with bridal veils.

We are prepared to train, but are looking for a base of good sewing skills, ideally experience in a professional setting.

This role is a great fit for someone looking to supplement other work they have, or someone only looking for a part-time commitment- for example, looking to fill some hours in the day while kids are at school.

The hours are not adequate if you need full-time employment.

Our hiring process includes an in-person sewing interview so we can see where your skills are at now, and what we'd need to train you for.

We hope to get someone started by end December/early January for training, in prep for regular scheduled shifts by mid-February when our season ramps up.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
