Youth & Justice Services Unit - Existing Vacancy

YOUTH SUPPORT WORKER- Union House Residence Ref. #:

Part-time, Temporary, Hourly - 12 month contract

  • Hours of Work: 3:00pm – 10:30pm on a scheduled rotation.
  • Minimum of 26 hours per week, with additional hours for regularly scheduled meetings, professional development, and other program related opportunities.

Union House offers safe and supportive out-of-home care for youth ages 16 and 17 who are facing barriers. By applying strength-based and trauma informed practices, employees work alongside residents as they develop their skills and grow towards a successful transition to independence.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a primary worker for a designated number of residents
  • Provide life skills coaching and supportive counselling in both individual and group settings
  • Engage with youth and team members to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care
  • Facilitate the admission and departure of residents
  • Consult and coordinate service with community partners and identified supports
  • Initiate and participate in community outings and recreational activities with youth

Qualifications:

  • Relevant community college diploma or degree in social services
  • Minimum of one year experience working with youth in an out of home care setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of risk management
  • Proven leadership skills & experience working with placement students and/or volunteers
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to perform duties both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Office 365
  • Broad Sector Check (includes Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check & Vulnerable Sector Record Check); Children's Aid Society Declaration & Release
  • Possession of a valid driver's licence, $2 million vehicle liability insurance, clear Driver Abstract and use of a vehicle.
