The Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME) is one of six academic units in the Faculty of Engineering. Faculty and staff in the department support and foster the educational and research pursuits of undergraduate and graduate engineering students, while providing the best student experience. The Research Engineer will apply their expertise and knowledge to technical projects and find innovative, cost-effective means to conduct and improve research, techniques, technologies, and products. The incumbent will conduct fundamental experiments on the melting/solidification of Phase-change materials (PCMs) independently and will assist the work of other HQP in the research group. The incumbent will write up the findings for scientific publications.

Qualifications

Education:

• Master's degree in a relevant discipline required

• PhD in Mechanical or Materials Engineering and have experimental expertise with PCM melting and solidification in relevant position preferred

Experience:

• 3 years' working experience in a related academic research environment
• Work on postdoctoral research portfolio, directly related to the research focus preferred

• Communication skills with the ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
• Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
• Advanced skills in software and applications supporting the research development and analysis
• Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
• Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
• Commitment to ongoing professional development with a desire to take on new challenges
• Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
• Familiarity with University research policies and practices
• Oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on proposal development and presentation
• Ability to work in a fluid and evolving work environment with changing deadlines and priorities
