The Director of Transitional Housing Services contributes to the success of the Oshkâyak Dibiniwaang (Young Person in Shelter from the Wind) Indigenous Youth Transitional Housing Services (IYTH) by effectively planning, organizing, leading, and managing transitional housing and outreach services and activities, in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures. This role will work in partnership with Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) and other stakeholders to build capacity by designing, developing, and implementing strategic goals that addresses the needs of urban Indigenous youth experiencing homelessness or insecure housing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred University Degree or equivalent in Social Services, Public Administration, Liberal Arts, Psychology, or related discipline; 5+ years of experience in leadership positions in residential living or similar programs or any combination of relevant training and/or supervisory experience and 2+ years of experience in social work services and case management.
- Project management and development, administration, service delivery, and evaluation; working with multiple stakeholders.
- Awareness of and appreciation for traditional Indigenous culture and the social reality that Indigenous people experience in an urban setting; knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of services available for youth and people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Knowledge of tenant rights, rental agreements, and laws and legislation relevant to housing and human rights.
- Expertise and understanding of the principals involved to provide culturally grounded trauma-informed care and wise practices within service delivery, continuum of care, and group programming.
- Knowledge of and experience with human resources activities including: recruitment, orientation, performance management, schedule management, and employee relations and communications.
- Experience in program management, supervision, operations, administration and budgeting.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including shift work, evenings and weekends, and on-call for emergency response.
- Must have a valid Ontario driver's license and reliable transportation.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Clearance is a condition of employment.
