About The Role

Draganfly Innovations is on the lookout for a seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and validation of mechanical systems for our UAV platforms. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and enjoys taking designs from concept through prototype, testing, and into production.

You will work across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure our products are reliable, manufacturable, and aligned with engineering best practices. Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Engineering

  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies for UAV systems with a focus on performance, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Develop and maintain CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles across machined, sheet metal, molded, composite, and additively manufactured components.
  • Support mechanical troubleshooting, failure analysis, and corrective design actions.

Manufacturing Readiness & Vendor Interaction

  • Collaborate with vendors to validate feasibility, materials, tooling constraints, and process capabilities.
  • Support prototype-to-production transition, including BOM cleanup, assembly definition, and documentation preparation.
  • Participate in EVT/DVT activities and update designs based on validation findings.
  • Maintain revision control and support ECO execution throughout the design lifecycle.

Prototype Integration & Test Support

  • Support prototype electrical integration, wiring, and test configurations.
  • Assist with aircraft setup, modifications, and teardown for ground and flight tests.
  • Select and evaluate mechanical and electrical components for test use.
  • Perform basic configuration or software parameter updates required for testing.
  • Document test results and communicate findings to the engineering team.

Operational & Team Support

  • Assist with prototype material receiving, inventory organization, engineering-related orders, and lab upkeep.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, PMO, and engineering groups to support project execution.
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior mechanical engineers as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience in hardware development.
  • Strong CAD proficiency in part and assembly modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing physical hardware (not CAD-only).
  • Experience working with prototypes, test articles, and iterative development cycles.
  • Experience in UAVs, robotics, aerospace, or electromechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with composite structures and lightweight assemblies.
  • Experience with design validation, environmental testing, or flight testing.

Compensation package

  • Competitive salary: $95,000 – $125,000
