Akausivik Inuit Family Health Team (AIFHT) is a not-for-profit medical clinic providing culturally safe, community-based primary medical care to Inuit individuals and their families. We work closely with federal, provincial, and local health partners to deliver holistic, respectful, and responsive care grounded in Inuit cultural safety principles.
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to deliver comprehensive primary health care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, specialists, nurses, interpreters, case managers, and allied health professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary care across the lifespan (assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing).
- Provide outreach and follow up for at/high risk patients, in shelter, home, hospital
- Manage acute and chronic conditions using evidence-informed and culturally safe approaches.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications within NP scope.
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary care team, including physicians.
- Provide culturally appropriate patient education and health promotion.
- Coordinate referrals, consultations, and follow-up care.
- Participate in triage and seeing urgent, acute patients (telephone and walk-ins).
- Maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Nursing: Nurse Practitioner (Primary Health Care).
- Current registration in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in primary care or community health.
- Demonstrated understanding of Inuit culture, cultural safety, and trauma-informed care.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an inter-professional team environment.
- Inuktitut language skills, experience working with Inuit considered an asset
Working Conditions
- Must be accessible by phone.
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
Additional Information
Preference in hiring will be given to qualified Inuit candidates. The successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
