POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Recreation Therapist, the Recreation Services Aide is responsible for enhancing the quality of life for residents through personal interaction and group recreation activities intended to meet mental, physical, emotional, social, spiritual and cultural needs. This position entails a high level of interaction with Residents/Elders and requires some physical endurance including the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, to lift over 5kg, and maneuver wheelchairs, etc. Some offsite day and evening trips are occasionally scheduled.

This position deals with highly confidential matters and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act/confidentiality must be a top priority both at work and outside of work.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

· Execute recreation activities and events that meet residents' mental, physical, emotional, social, spiritual and cultural needs.

· Recognize residents' birthdays and special events that provide seasonal interest through decorations or displays in public areas.

· Develop and distribute monthly newsletter on the first day of each month.

· Create a monthly activity calendar that is easily read and is understood by residents.

· Perform activity and event preparation according to approved schedule.

· Ensure activities are organized and well lead.

· Provide residents with adequate supplies for scheduled activities.

· Inform residents of the recreation programs that are available to them.

· Encourage residents to participate and make them feel welcome during activities.

· Treat residents with dignity and respect.

· Support residents' independence at all times.

· Ensure programs enhance residents' self-esteem and well-being.

· Provide information pertaining to social and leisure opportunities offered within the community.

· Assist in Care Units during meal times as requested from time to time.

· And other duties per Supervisor, Manager, CAO, etc.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

· High school diploma.

· First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

· Experience in relevant position.

· Experience organizing activities and working with groups is an asset.

· Class 4 License is an asset.

· Speaking and understanding Cree would be an asset.

OTHER BONA FIDE OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT

Must provide a complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) prior to commencing work.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $24.00-$27.00 per hour
