Working in the McMaster Children's Hospital Extensive Needs Service, the Behaviour Therapist will develop and provide behaviour reduction, treatment, services and supports to children and youth (up to age 18) , and their families. Services may be provided in groups, as well as individually. Parent training and workshops will be an integral component of the services. The Behaviour Therapist will work as a member of an integrated service delivery team within McMaster Children's Hospital, working across acute and ambulatory contexts, providing service augmentation across sites and programs. As a result, the Behaviour Therapist may be expected to provide and continue treatment for individuals who are referred across programs e.g. Urgent Response Service to Extensive Needs Service. The Behavior Therapist will also be involved in program development, implementation, evaluation, and consultation with community providers.
McMaster Children's Hospital is the regional academic centre for pediatric acute care, rehabilitation, developmental and mental health services. The Extensive Needs/Mi-Care Program is comprised of Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) and Ministry of Health (MOH) funded services for individuals up to the age of 18, whose needs cannot be met in a single service stream and requires an integrated approach across Mental, Behavioural and Developmental Health. The Extensive Needs Service supports a culture of innovation, family-centered service and evidenced based interventions. As the Extensive Needs/Mi-Care Program overlaps with many programs across McMaster Children's Hospital Behaviour Therapists operate within and alongside other programs, sites and services, both acute and ambulatory, including but not limited to the Autism, Child and Youth Mental Health, and Developmental Pediatrics and Rehabilitation programs.
1. Baccalaureate Degree with a focus of studies in behaviour analysis or a related field; Master's Degree with a focus of studies in behaviour analysis or a related field completed or in progress considered an asset.
2. Demonstrated skills in the areas of behavioural assessment, service coordination, and treatment planning with children and/or youth with behavioral and/or a developmental disability.
3. Three to five years clinical experience in providing Applied Behaviour Analysis services to children/youth
4. Experience in providing education/training to caregivers
5. Experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
7. Experience in research and program development considered an asset
8. Computer skills and experience with data management
9. Possession of a valid driver's license and use of a vehicle
10. Bilingual fluency in French would be an asset
11. Participation in a criminal reference screening process
12. Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)
