Position Overview

The Gas Dock Supervisor at Hindson Marina is responsible for the smooth daily operation of the marina, gas dock, docks, pool, playground, and related facilities. These roles include managing marina attendants, interacting with customers, maintaining safety and cleanliness, and managing administrative tasks.

Essential Job Functions

  • Continually strive to meet the Hindson Marina standard of customer experience

  • Follow, understand, and practice all Hindson Marina policies and procedures (i.e., workplace health and safety, environmental, vacation, time off, etc.)

  • Ensure the opening and closing of the gas dock is completed correctly and efficiently.

  • Supervise dock staff and provide constructive feedback on an ongoing basis.

  • Delegate duties to Marina Attendants, as required.

  • Assist with staff scheduling and approving time off requests, based on business demands.

  • Assist and provide feedback on gas dock policies and procedures.

  • Train staff, ensuring orientation checklists are completed and submitted on a timely basis

  • Assist gas dock staff with fuel-ups, pump-outs, and boat mooring as required.

  • Check ATF fluid levels in pump-out machines on gas dock, pump out boat and service wall.

  • Manage fuel statistics and reports (Lightspeed, Picon, Excel).

  • Balance gas dock sales at the end of each shift, investigate, address and resolve all discrepancies.

  • Maintain accurate records for fuel sales and health & safety.

  • Ensure pool testing records are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that chlorine and chlorinator are added to the pool (weekly or bi-weekly).

  • Perform chemical water tests and submit samples monthly, as needed

  • Ensure that trained staff test pools on a regular basis

  • Ensure the playground is maintained appropriately and in a safe manner.

  • Perform and document fire extinguisher and alarm system checks.

  • Supervise and provide feedback to students and their performance.

  • Monitor and communicate via VHF radio.

  • Ensure the gas dock students are adhering to the following:

o Safety procedures, SOPs, and company policies

o Perform dock walks and washroom checks.

o Docks and facilities are clean and orderly.

o Stock and rotate ice cubes and ice blocks.

o Customers are greeted in a warm, professional manner.

o Operate POS systems, process customer payments and purchases.

o Conduct thorough dock safety inspections.

o Maintain playground equipment and sand.

o Efficient and accurate opening and closing

o Lock down dumpsters after weekly pickups.

  • Initiate communication and regular meetings with your back up to ensure the smooth operation of the gas dock and its employees.

  • Support office functions during off-peak hours (data entry, filing).

  • Participate in spring setup and fall teardown procedures.

  • Perform any other duties that may be requested by the Owner/Manager

Customer Service Expectations

  • Always provide professional and friendly service.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and inviting environment for patrons.

  • Be knowledgeable in marina rules and boating terminology.

  • Manage on-site customer complaints or incidents with professionalism.

  • Backup to answering phone systems and responding to phone inquiries, as absolutely required.

Skills & Requirements

  • Must have previous experience as a Lead or Supervisor.

  • Must be available to work on weekends and holidays.

  • Must have previous Marina experience.

  • Current Certified Pool Operator Certificate as asset.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of boats and marine safety.

  • Must be able to swim/tread water for at least 2 minutes.

  • Computer literate with Microsoft office, email, internet.

  • Must have retail experience.

  • Must have knowledge and experience of POS systems; LightSpeed an asset

  • Must possess superior customer service skills

  • Must work well as a team and individually in a professional manor.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be meticulous and demonstrate a high degree of accuracy

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Physically able to lift up to 30lbs, bend, twist, and move over uneven surfaces.

  • First Aid/CPR certification

  • Pleasure Craft Operator Card (preferred).

Working Conditions

  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50lbs without assistance

  • Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or for an entire shift

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, twist, reach, and pull for extended periods

  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling

  • Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions

  • Exposure to loud engine/equipment noise

  • Exposure to fuel odors and hazardous substances

Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
