Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer role is responsible for delivering high quality code in a timely manner while leading and working with the engineering managers to design solutions as appropriate. Working in an agile environment you will provide technical leadership and provide senior technical expertise and support while delivering quality software. On a day-to-day basis the Senior Software Engineer is actively helping lead the continuous improvement of our technical delivery and agile processes while positively leading and contributing to discussions and team dynamics. The Senior Software Engineer will proactively help push the technical standards and quality of the team forwards.

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for delivering high quality application, automation and testing code in accordance with industry best practice and OFX guidelines.

Where required, the Software Engineer will take on the technical leadership of a piece of work by performing the function of a technical lead on a task.

This role works closely with colleagues in various regions and would require variability in start and finish times to support a global team or to meet business needs, with advance notice and fair rotation.

What you'll do:

  • Work closely with the tech lead and engineering manages to help improve our coding practices while delivering code and participating in code reviews.
  • Ensure code is efficient and adheres to OFX coding standards and guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that our capability and expertise continue to evolve by motivating the teams and promoting a collaborative working environment.
  • Proactively identify complex areas of code that require refactoring and technical debt and ensure these are addressed as appropriate.
  • As part of an agile team assist outside of your core skills including deployments, QA and level 3 support when appropriate.
  • Actively provide appropriate leadership as part of the product development team including mentorship and coaching.
  • Participate in design reviews and proof of concepts.
  • Maintain consistent and constant communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications

What you bring

  • Extensive experience with commercial software development required.
  • Excellent knowledge of web technologies HTML/CSS.
  • Excellent knowledge and commercial experience working with modern JavaScript, specifically , typescript,
  • Excellent knowledge and commercial experience with AWS solutions and environments , CDK)
  • Experience with Agile development methodology and development practices such as TDD, Kanban, Shift Left, etc.
  • Experience with our tech stack including AWS, specifically CDK, Lambdas, API Gateway, DynamoDB and EventBridge.
  • Experience writing scalable, reusable code for UI components, with tests.
  • Commercial level experience with advanced coding techniques and practices.
  • Application, memory and database profiling experience.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Extensive experience with unit testing and acceptance criteria frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant application architectures and frameworks.
  • Significant experience in designing web-based, service-oriented applications.
  • Experience designing, building and working with RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with architectural design patterns and data modelling and design.
  • Experience in distributed source control system (Git and Github) required.

Desirable Experience

  • Commercial experience working with containers such as Docker.
  • Detailed knowledge of Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment and Configuration Management.
  • Experience working with Design Language Systems.

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $155,000 CAD. Exact salary offered will be dependent on multiple factors including level of experience, job-related knowledge, skills, work location, etc. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for a variable bonus.

We also offer a flexible hybrid working model where employees typically work 1-2 days from our downtown Edmonton office.
