Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer position is critical to delivering on the overall success Summit Tools. Using strong interpersonal and communication skills, the Buyer will work with vendors for product purchases. The Buyer will negotiate pricing and consider several other factors before making purchasing commitments. By identifying and purchasing products for promotion the buyer will be actively involved in marketing initiatives. The Buyer should have a strong attention to detail and be able to work with minimal supervision. Previous experience in the Hardware / Power Tool industry will be critical to the success of the Buyer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Purchasing products on a regular basis to ensure stores are adequately stocked.
  • Research and prepare, prior to engaging in negotiations with vendors (anticipate costs, shipping times, volume price breaks, competitor pricing, etc.
  • Ensuring all vendor information is current and up to date.
  • Research competitors pricing and remain competitive with marketing initiatives.
  • Review sales performance and vendor performance.
  • Selecting products for promotion and ensuring availability of the items.
  • Ongoing learning and application of knowledge as it relates to specific product lines.
  • Provide effective leadership, coaching and development for all junior team members.
  • Proactively reach out and build strong strategic relationships cross functionally across the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 3 years of buying experience, must have experience within the hardware / power tool industry
  • Experience in ordering for distribution and understanding of retail sales channel would be an asset
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field; specialized education with Supply Chain Management would be an asset
  • Must have exceptional negotiation skills
  • Must be very detail oriented
  • Must have strong working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have great time management prioritization skills
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated/self-directed, with an ability to work independently using sound judgment, and logical reasoning skills
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to visit store locations, including travel to Quebec, for training purposes.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to the U.S. for attending trade shows.
