Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, the Director of Elders & Youth with Department of Culture & Heritage is accountable for developing programs and services to meet the specific needs of Elders, Youth and managing community leisure services for health and well-being of all Nunavummiut. Director is responsible for advancing the principles of the Inuit Societal Values within communities throughout Nunavut by advancing the priorities of healthy communities through leisure activities and healthy living. A key component of community development will relate to developing infrastructure, programs, and services for Elders & Youth in all regions of Nunavut. Four positions report directly to the Director: Manager, Youth Programs, Manager Elders Program, Cultural Programs Advisor and the Administrative Officer.
ResponsibilitiesThe Director is accountable for the provisions of advice, guidance, assistance and support to Youth and Elder's Committees and community organizations that promote healthy living and leisure activities, for grants, and contributions funding and capital infrastructure funding for projects that are designed to support Elders, Youth, and community-based organizations that promote culture, language and heritage.
QualificationsKnowledge and skills would normally be acquired through post-secondary degree in Education, Administration, community development, or other related fields, plus three (3) years experience in progressive responsible management positions with a diverse background in areas of finance, human resources, community and territorial/provincial operations as well as experience in managing community programs. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktitut is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
