'Summary'

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and technical support of mechanical systems, tanks, piping, and structural components for PRI's fabrication and rubber-lined equipment projects. This role involves developing detailed engineering packages, performing calculations, preparing drawings, and ensuring all deliverables meet applicable codes, client specifications, and internal quality standards. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with project management, steel fabrication, rubber lining, and quality departments to ensure efficient project execution from concept through fabrication and commissioning.

Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering

  • Prepare and review design drawings, models, and calculations for tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensure alignment with procurement and production requirements.
  • Perform strength, stress, and tolerance calculations in compliance with ASME, API, and CWB codes.
  • Select appropriate materials, coatings, and linings for each service environment.
  • Support design optimization to improve manufacturability, cost efficiency, and performance.
  • Assist with design verification, dimensional checks, and integration of client redlines.

Project Support

  • Work directly with project managers and coordinators to clarify scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Support estimation and tendering by providing technical input, material take-offs, and concept drawings.
  • Participate in project kickoff, design review, and ITP meetings.
  • Collaborate with the steel shop, rubber lining, and coatings teams to resolve technical queries in real time.
  • Prepare and issue engineering change notices when required.

Fabrication Interface

  • Provide technical support to shop during fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Conduct inspections and verifications to ensure conformity between drawings and as-built conditions.
  • Review weld details, joint configurations, and dimensional tolerances.
  • Support troubleshooting of non-conformances or field issues with practical engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC on inspections, NCRs, and corrective actions.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure all designs adhere to PRI's internal procedures, QA/QC standards, and client specifications.
  • Maintain documentation and revision control per ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Support audits and documentation packages for code compliance.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to standardization of drawing templates, calculation tools, and engineering workflows.
  • Recommend process or design improvements to reduce rework and improve efficiency.
  • Participate in lessons-learned and post-project review sessions.

Experience & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.

Experience

  • 3–7 years of mechanical design experience in heavy industrial, mining, or oil & gas environments.
  • Experience with design of tanks, pressure vessels, piping, and welded assemblies.
  • Familiarity with fabrication processes, welding, and shop drawings.
  • Practical exposure to ASME Section VIII, API 650, and B31.3 standards.
  • Experience working with 3D CAD.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of ASME, API, ASTM, and CWB standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in drawings and calculations.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Excel-based engineering trackers and calculation sheets.

Preferred / Additional Assets

  • Experience in rubber lining, coatings, or corrosion-resistant equipment.
  • Familiarity with welding procedures, NDE, and inspection methods.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 framework.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
