Location: Prince George, Dawson Creek, Smithers, or Terrace (Hybrid after probationary period)

About The Opportunity
As a Practice Advisor, Indigenous Relations at CLBC, you will support initiatives aimed at increasing cultural safety within CLBC and influence Indigenous community inclusion strategies across the sector. You will provide province-wide leadership, working closely with Head Office Departments and Regional Operations to develop innovative approaches to advancing CLBC's relationships with First Nations, Metis, Inuit, partners, and Urban indigenous agencies, individuals and communities.

This dynamic position is responsible for developing CLBC's capacity to understand and respond to the needs of Indigenous individuals and their families who live within or outside of First Nations communities, including urban and rural communities. This includes providing practice consultation and planning guidance to regional operations staff with an Indigenous cultural lens, coordinating training at the team or region level, and providing expert knowledge for the implementation of cross-government policy agreements.

To Succeed In This Role, You
Are agile in your approach and methodology, and can move fluidly from support to project leadership, translating local issues into change opportunities, working effectively with Regional and Executive leadership

Have a high level of knowledge and understanding of BC Indigenous issues, including the history and impact of residential schools, intersections of disability with culture, and steps to implement the Provincial Government's mandated Calls to Action

Have a familiarity with the structure and operation of developmental disability supports and services in BC

Understand different learning styles and corresponding communication strategies

Are familiar with the elements of Aboriginal meeting protocols, including circles, elder participation, etc.

Understand program and policy development

Understand trauma-informed practice

What You Will Bring
Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in a related field, and preferably a minimum of five years of experience working in both the government systems and with Indigenous Peoples in the community

An understanding of the various jurisdictions is critical

An equivalent combination of relevant education/experience may be considered

Pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference will be given to Indigenous candidates who self-identify as having First Nation, Metis or Indigenous ancestry with the required combination of education and experience.

Travel: Regular overnight travel is required

Possession of a Class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract are required. Use of own vehicle on expenses
