RVA's Toronto office is looking for a student to join their team for a 4-8 month co-op position. The position will start from
May 2026.
As an Electrical Co‑op Student, you will support RVA's electrical engineering team on real‑world projects in areas such as water and wastewater facilities, pumping stations, and building services. You will gain hands‑on experience in electrical design, drafting, and field support while working alongside experienced engineers and technologists.

Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of electrical design drawings, schematics, and layouts using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Support the development of single‑line diagrams, control schematics, and lighting/plug‑load layouts for municipal and industrial projects.
  • Help compile electrical specifications, equipment schedules, and material lists under the guidance of a licensed engineer.
  • Perform basic calculations for load estimation, voltage drop, and short‑circuit studies using standard engineering methods.
  • Participate in site visits and field inspections to collect data, verify existing conditions, and support as‑built documentation.
  • Assist with coordination between electrical, mechanical, civil, and instrumentation disciplines to ensure integrated designs.
  • Prepare and organize project documentation, including drawing sets, mark‑ups, and design notes.
  • Contribute to quality control checks by reviewing drawings and calculations for consistency and compliance with applicable codes and standards.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology co‑op program at a Canadian post‑secondary institution.
  • Completion of at least second year of your program (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong academic performance and interest in infrastructure, water/wastewater, or building systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals (e.g., power distribution, motor controls, lighting, grounding).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit; willingness to learn RVA's drafting standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Compensation Range
The salary range for this position is: $25-$30/hour

Compensation for this role will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business needs.
