Bethany Lodge is a faith-based long-term care home dedicated to providing compassionate, resident-centered care in a warm and respectful environment. We are currently seeking a Dietary Aide to join our Dietary Services team and support the nutritional needs and well-being of our residents.
Position Summary
The Dietary Aide is responsible for serving residents' meals and assisting with food preparation in accordance with residents' individual dietary needs, Bethany Lodge policies, and the Ministry of Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) standards. This role contributes to ensuring a safe, clean, and caring dining experience for all residents.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Care:
- Serve meals and beverages according to residents' dietary plans and preferences.
- Provide assistance with feeding as needed, while maintaining residents' dignity and independence.
- Monitor and record food and fluid intake; report concerns to the Dietitian or Charge Nurse.
Food Preparation & Service:
- Set up, clean, and sanitize dining areas, kitchen equipment, and utensils.
- Ensure safe food handling practices and maintain cleanliness standards at all times.
Communication & Teamwork:
- Communicate effectively with residents, coworkers, and nursing staff.
- Report changes in residents' eating habits or concerns promptly.
- Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all infection prevention and control policies.
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety and Public Health regulations.
- Participate in ongoing education and mandatory training as required.
Qualifications
- Food Handler Certificate (required)
- Food Service Worker Certificate (required or currently enrolled in program)
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Understanding of the aging process and a genuine respect for the elderly
- Previous experience in a long-term care or healthcare setting is an asset
