JOB SUMMARY

The Financial Services Branch is responsible for the overall delivery of financial services to City departments, Boards, Commissions and Agencies, ensuring that the financial support requirements and financial processing are delivered in a timely, meaningful manner. Services include budget development and monitoring, financial analysis, project management support, financial reporting both internal and external, financial compliance, financial advice and accounting requirements. The Account Management units develop strategic business partnerships and deliver "one-stop-shop" financial support to their client departments to meet operational requirements of the assigned lines of business.

You are responsible to provide timely and accurate financial information for transit services. You work with FSU Coordinators, unit staff, City IT, Corporate Finance, other employees within Transit and the City, as well as liaise with the Presto Finance Committee, Presto Incident Committee and Presto Service Desk to coordinate activities. Duties include: validating customer's balance using the Electronic Fare Management System (EFMS), analysis of financial transactions, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, processing of adjusting journal entries, generation of financial reports, and involvement in system implementations or enhancement.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year post-secondary education with an emphasis in Accounting and/or Finance.

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management including financial analyses, accounting, extracting/manipulating data within the Datamart systems and working with BI tools. Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong analytical skills.

Experience in the implementation and testing of financial systems is desirable.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Acquired knowledge of the City financial policies and procedures
  • Posses knowledge of relevant SAP modules and an understanding of the maintenance management systems, and client software, including Presto system, Para EFMS and their interfaces with SAP
  • Knowledge of financial controls and process
  • Sound knowledge of Branch/Division mandate, systems, programs, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • General knowledge of Business and basis accounting practices including general ledger, billing, Accounts Payable and Receivable procedures
  • Understanding of City GL Account code structure
  • Knowledge of advanced Skills in MS Office including Excel 10 and Power Pivot
  • Understanding of corporate SAP Systems and other databases to manage information that is accessible and used by the Division.
  • Understanding of problem-solving, analytical and customer service techniques/City practices
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

  • Possess strong analytical skills, especially in Microsoft
