1.0 FTE Regular Family School Liaison Counsellor – 37.5hrs/wk- W.R. Myers High School

Hours of work include: Monday-Thursday 8:00 – 4:30 & three (3) Fridays 8:00-1:30 and one (1) Friday scheduled 8:30-3:30pm.

Horizon School Division is searching for a Family School Liaison Counsellor. The successful candidate must hold a degree in Social Work, or a Master's Degree in Counselling or related discipline. The candidate must be registered or eligible for a professional association including College of Alberta Psychologists (Counselling Therapist) and Alberta College of Social Workers. Experience in counselling children and adolescents is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be required to provide counselling services for students at our Taber and Rural area schools. This position will commence as soon as possible. The Family School Liaison Counsellor is required to:

The Family School Liaison Counsellor is required to:

• provide one-to-one counselling for students/families
• facilitate counselling groups for students
• provide classroom presentations
• liaison with other professionals in the community
• attend collaborative team meetings and individual student plan meetings
• appropriate clinical documentation that complies with legal and College requirements
  provide crisis response intervention in the schools

An Educational Assistant in Horizon School Division:

• Encourages students to develop and maintain positive interaction.
• Maintains confidentiality and a patient, supportive and enthusiastic commitment to students.
• As required, provides personal care including toileting, diapering, feeding, dressing, grooming, etc. ensuring that student dignity is maintained. Attends to physical needs including lifting, positioning, and range of motion programs as identified by appropriate personnel.
• Ensures the safety of students in the school and community, which includes maintaining close supervision of students, ensuring student equipment is sanitized and put away, retrieving students who attempt to leave their learning environment, calming and/or restraining students engaged in challenging behaviours; supervising and assisting students who utilize a variety of life skill tools (i.e., scissors, cooking utensils, etc.).
• Maintains collegial relationships with the students' learning team.
