Overview

Join our dedicated team as a DSW (Developmental Support Worker), PSW (Personal Support Worker), or SSW (Social Service Worker) specializing in Trauma-Informed Care for Children and Youth. In this vital role, you will provide compassionate, person-centered support to children and young individuals experiencing trauma, developmental disabilities, or mental health challenges. Duties

  • Deliver direct support to children and youth with diverse needs, ensuring their safety and well-being through attentive monitoring and compassionate engagement
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, and mobility support using tools such as Hoyer lifts when necessary
  • Implement individualized care plans tailored to each child's unique needs, including trauma-informed strategies that promote emotional stability and resilience
  • Observe and document behavioral changes, mental health status, and progress while maintaining accurate records in compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations
  • Support children during group activities, therapy sessions, and community outings to foster social skills and community integration
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and adhering to infection control protocols
  • Administer medications as prescribed under supervision, monitor vital signs when required, and report any concerns promptly to the supervising healthcare team

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care settings is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and experience supporting children or youth with developmental disabilities or mental health conditions such as autism or dementia care is preferred
  • Certifications such as First Aid, CPR, HIPAA compliance training, and medication administration are required or can be obtained upon hire
  • Ability to lift heavy objects safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts; physical stamina for patient monitoring and assisting with mobility is essential
  • Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and recognizing signs of distress or behavioral changes
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members, families, and external service providers
  • Compassionate attitude with a commitment to providing respectful, dignified care tailored to each child's needs

Preferred Experience:

  • PSW, DSW, or SSW certification (required)
  • Experience supporting children or youth with trauma, behavioural, or emotional needs
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, Indigenous-informed care models, or traditional family-centered environments
  • Strong communication skills and calm, nurturing presence
  • CPR/First Aid
  • CPI/ASIST Certification
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
