SMT Technician

The SMT Technician supports the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment and processes used in PCB assembly. This role ensures high-quality production output, minimal downtime, and adherence to manufacturing and IPC workmanship standards. The SMT Technician is knowledgeable about surface mount technology, reflow, automated optical inspection (AOI), solder paste inspection (SPI), and quality inspection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support SMT Operations, including printing, placement, automated inspection (SPI & AOI), and reflow.
  • Assist SMT Operations during coverage or high demand periods, when required.
  • Perform machine programming, verification, and adjustments based on build packages, BOMs, and engineering changes.
  • Inspect solder paste, component placement, and solder joints using SPI, AOI, Xray, microscopes, and other inspection tools.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, including feeder errors, alignment problems, solder defects, and reflow profile concerns.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on SMT machines and related equipment to reduce downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with ESD, safety, and IPC-A-610 standards throughout production.
  • Participate in process improvements, first-article builds, and new product introductions (NPI).
  • Train operators on equipment use and best practices, when required.
  • Other duties in electronics manufacturing as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working in electronics PCB assembly, preferably in an SMT production environment.
  • Hands-on experience with modern SMT equipment
  • Strong understanding of SMT components, feeders, reflow profiling, and solder paste characteristics.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Comfortable using microscopes, multimeters, and basic hand tools.
  • IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification.
  • Experience with AOI or SPI systems.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $26.00-$36.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
