Machine Learning Engineer
Location: Toronto, ON (In-Person)Type: Full-Time
About the Role
We are a clinician-led healthcare organization building an applied AI system to support an established clinical workflow. The focus is on practical, reliable machine learning that integrates into day-to-day healthcare operations.
The system is designed with privacy in mind: operational data is processed transiently and not retained, and models are updated through controlled retraining rather than continuous learning on live data. Clinicians remain the final decision-makers.
Responsibilities
- Implement machine learning models based on defined architecture and requirements
- Develop data pipelines that support transient data processing and secure deletion
- Train, evaluate, and update models using approved datasets
- Set up scheduled or versioned retraining workflows
- Monitor model performance and stability over time
- Work closely with clinical and product stakeholders to align models with workflow needs
- Integrate ML components into backend services
- Maintain clear technical documentation
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience developing machine learning models
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn
- Solid understanding of model evaluation, generalization, and reproducible experimentation
- Experience working with Git and collaborative development workflows
Nice to Have
- Experience with privacy-conscious or data-minimizing systems
- Exposure to healthcare or sensitive data environments
- Familiarity with SQL, Docker, or basic cloud infrastructure
- Experience with model interpretability techniques
Team & Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with the Clinical Lead and software engineering stakeholders
- Participate in design discussions and implementation planning
- Contribute to a safety-focused, human-in-the-loop AI development approach
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
