What does the work of a Project Manager and Researcher (Environmental Services) include?

The
Project Manager and Researcher (Environmental Services)
leads and coordinates peer reviews of environmental documents on behalf of First Nation clients. This includes reviews of Environmental Assessment (EA) submissions, baseline studies, permit applications, and mitigation or offset plans across multiple disciplines. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and coordinating technical peer reviews of environmental documents on behalf of First Nations clients, particularly in the context of consultation, regulatory processes, and impact assessments.
  • Assessing the adequacy, accuracy, and defensibility of proponent-submitted studies (e.g., hydrology, fisheries, vegetation, wildlife, cumulative effects).
  • Synthesizing findings and producing concise, plain-language summaries and recommendations tailored for First Nation clients.
  • Producing clear, defensible reports for use in litigation, negotiations, and Crown consultation processes.
  • Coordinating input from multidisciplinary teams (environmental scientists, hydrologists, biologists, anthropologists, GIS analysts).

Our ideal Project Manager and Researcher (Environmental Services) brings:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • PMP, CAPM, or equivalent project management training, or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in environmental consulting, regulatory review, or Indigenous governance roles.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian federal, provincial, and territorial environmental assessment and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working in or alongside Indigenous communities, with a strong understanding of Indigenous governance, protocols, and values.
  • Ability to travel to client sites and / or supporting field teams, at times in remote locations, for up to 20% of the time.
