StarSpec Technologies is looking for a number of skilled and technically experienced individuals in the area of Assembly, Integration & Testing (AI&T) to work on a variety of space-based projects requiring a wide range of skillsets. At a high level, we are seeking skillsets and experience that includes: on-the-floor assembly of spacecraft and testing rigs, prototyping and assembly of electronic circuit boards, light machining and in-situ fabrication, production-level chassis harnessing, and electronics testing / debugging at our Cambridge and Ayr facilities. This position is on a Contract Basis beginning in January 2026 (or sooner) at 10 to 30 hours per week, assigned weekly based on company and projects' needs. This position is applicable for transition to Full-Time based on performance and company needs. Compensation is competitive, ranging from $27/hr to $44/hr, commensurate with experience and range of technical skills offered.

Key Skillsets — applicants must meet at least three of the following, in order of preference:

  • Electronics Design, Prototyping, and Fabrication: Concept-to-board analog and digital electronics design and assembly, including SMT reflow and hand soldering prototyping to qualify designs and layout for PCB manufacturing. Experience with PCB design software; Kicad, Altium, etc.
  • Detailed Assembly and Integration: Hands-on assembly of mechanical and complex electromechanical and servo assemblies, engaging with engineers directly for direction and clarifications
  • Light Machining and Prototyping: Working with basic machining tools (drill press, mill, lathe, etc) to modify components in situ, which may also include prototyping for pre-manufacturing components
  • Harnessing & Integration: Chassis instrumentation, including electrical harnessing and electromechanical installation, for highly integrated systems
  • Electronics Hardware Qualification: Implementation of electromechanical systems, qualifying for testing on the path to production release with debugging undertaken where necessary

General Qualifications

Must-Haves:

  • Demonstrated technical expertise and experience in at least three of the above skillsets.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in undertaking highly complex tasks.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Strong work ethic and proactivity to solve problems in a team environment.
  • Must be eligible for certification under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Familiarity with CAD modeling software for reference assemblies.
  • Engineering experience in design and testing.
  • Mechatronics experience implementing designs for real, physical systems.
  • Knowledge of general space hardware requirements and boundary conditions.
  • Relevant machining certifications.
  • Crane and / or forklift operator certification.
