The Role
We're hiring a Group Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer to join Recess Fit Club as we expand our class schedule.
This is a hybrid role teaching small-group strength classes and providing 1:1 personal training. Our clients are largely new to strength training or returning after a break, injury, illness, or long hiatus—so comfort working with real people, not athletes, is essential.
Must-Haves (Please Read First)
- Availability to work at least 2 of the following fixed schedule blocks:
- 1. Monday–Thursday: 6:45 AM – 1:00 PM (highest demand) (you will be asked to specify when applying which weekdays you are available )
- 2. Friday: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- 3. Wednesday: 3:45 PM – 8:00 PM
- Consistent availability — this schedule does not change week-to-week or month-to-month
- Strong punctuality — being on time and dependable is non-negotiable
- Comfortable teaching general population clients
- Experience teaching barbell movements, specifically squats and deadlifts
- High emotional intelligence; encouraging, friendly, and sincere communication style
What You'll Do
- Teach small-group strength classes (max 12 participants), solo; following a curriculum (note: not Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting,crossfit/hyrox or HIIT); as well as
- Deliver 1:1 personal training for which you will be responsible for programming based on your clients' specific needs.
- Equipment is primarily barbells, dumbbells
- Teach and reinforce foundational movement patterns: Squat, hinge, lunge, push, pull
- Modify movements to meet diverse abilities and needs
- PT clients are provided — no sales or lead generation required
- Contribute to a well-run gym environment
- Light caretaking such as tidying equipment or restocking supplies may be included
- Be a reliable, collaborative member of the coaching team
Requirements
- Certification in personal training or fitness instruction from a recognized organization, or equivalent education (e.g. kinesiology)
- CPR / First Aid certification
- Strong communication skills
- Experience teaching group classes or personal training preferred, but not required
- Interest in building a long-term career in coaching
Compensation
Trainers invoice bi-weekly or monthly for services rendered, as a contractor to Recess Fit Club.
- Group classes: $40–$45/hour (based on experience)
- Onboarding & shadowing: Paid $25/hour
- Floor Shift: Paid $20/hour - with the goal to replace these hours with PT
- Personal training: $50/hour
- Free gym access for your own training
- Subsidized health and dental plan available.

Mentorship & Support
You'll start with paid onboarding and shadowing to learn how we deliver our small-group strength curriculum.
Ongoing mentorship includes:
- Delivering clear, effective, inclusive instruction
- Managing client relationships
- Personal training programming for general population clients
- Troubleshooting unique client challenges
- Navigating the admin side of personal training
You'll work alongside a supportive team of experienced coaches who value growth, consistency, and collaboration.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $40.00 per hour
