What to expect:

The NDT Technical Specialist is responsible for the oversight of Recognized Training Organizations (RTOs) and Approved Exam Centres (AECs) and will act as a technical expert for CWB's NDT Certification Body (CB) supporting the development and management of both practical and written examinations. In this position they develop, document and maintain relevant processes and procedures in accordance with established standards and CWB Group work policies. The NDT Technical Specialist would also further development of other NDT techniques or method certifications and provide support in reviewing parity or other NDT CBs. They may represent CWB Group on relevant industry technical committees. They may travel within Canada, the United States, Mexico, South America or overseas.

This includes:

Certification Process Technical SME

  • Planning, technical development, review, and maintenance of certification exams including written exam questions, practical exam specimens, practical exam instructions and master reports.
  • Develop, review and implement procedures/work instructions for approving RTOs and AECs.
  • Perform or supervise NDT inspections of practical specimens to develop grading master reports or to detect/verify specimen issues.
  • Oversee certification exams as CB technical lead such as review/grading of practical examinations and assisting with technical inquiries.
  • Technical review/development of certification requirements, special routes and training/experience reductions.
  • Development of additional methods/techniques/endorsements
  • Involvement in standards and technical committees
  • Lead RTO and AEC technical improvement initiatives

Review and Auditing

  • Auditing technical submissions from certification applicants on a regular basis.
  • Auditing of technical aspects of RTOs and AECs.
  • Review of technical appeals or exceptions.
  • Technical assessment of foreign CBs and parity of requirements.

Promotion of Certification Body

  • Involvement in discussions with technical associations to further the reach of the CWB CB
  • Marketing technical support along with the Director

Note: This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by CWB

This position reports to the Director of NDT Certification and primarily works remotely from their home office in Canada. CWB has adopted a remote-first working model, where employees will work from their home office, servicing the client within their specified areas either remotely or in person. We are embracing radical flexibility, where employees are encouraged to work a schedule that works best for them, their team, and their clients.

 What you bring to the table:

  • Minimum 10 years experience as an NDT Technician
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (public speaking and presentation experience)
  • CAN/CGSB or ISO 9712 Level 2 certification in at least three methods
  • Intermediate knowledge of NDT PT, MT, UT, RT and ET methods and related techniques.
  • Work instruction and procedure development
  • A valid driver's license in the province of employment and your own vehicle are mandatory and travel is required.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a remote, work from home position.
  • Ability to travel outside of Canada and approximately 30% Travel is required.

The following qualifications would be an asset:

  • CAN/CGSB or ISO 9712 Level 3 certification in at least one method
  • Expert knowledge of NDT PT, MT, UT, RT and ET methods and related techniques.
  • Engineering or science degree or NDT related diploma
  • Experience in conducting audits
  • Presentation and public speaking experience
