Job Profile

Under the direction of the Chief Instructor, the Supervisor-In-Training (Instructor) is responsible for the preparation and coordination of the development and delivery of training programs for Bus Operators, other Departmental Staff, outside contractor staff, and other special interest groups.

As the Supervisor in Training - Instructor your duties will include:

Deliver the 31-Day Bus Operator Training Program, consisting of classroom and in-vehicle instructional modules.
Perform Bus Operator ride observations.
Design, develop and deliver other training and orientation programs, including in-service training on various topics (ex. TRAPS/RWT).
Train Bus Operators for specialized services (ex. On Request).
Develop and deliver remedial programs to Transit employees.
Provide advice and guidance to Bus Operators on Transit policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Education And Qualifications Include

High School or equivalent combination of training and experience.
A minimum of two consecutive years of permanent employment as a Winnipeg Transit Bus Operator with a superior safety, attendance and customer service record.
In-depth knowledge of the City of Winnipeg street system and Winnipeg Transit's routes, schedules, fares, policies, vehicle operation, etc.
Demonstrated verbal communication skills including experience delivering presentations to a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with frontline employees, leaders, union officials and inter-departmental partners.
Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and recommendations during stressful, time-limited conditions.
Demonstrated ability to exercise effective supervisory authority.
Demonstrated customer service skills while working with the public.
Strong organizational, planning and coordinating skills with a high level of analytical skills.
IMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service at application.

Conditions Of Employment

The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
A Police Record Check satisfactory to the Employer, will be required from the succesful candidate(s) at their own expense.
Must enroll in a management-approved program of study within 90 days of commencing employment as a Supervisor-in-Training.
Must successfully complete a management-approved program of study within five years of commencing employment as a Supervisor-in-Training. Note - You are required to complete this condition of employment on your own time.
Must hold and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 2 driver's license with air brake endorsement.

*In accordance with Article 4, an employee who enters the bargaining unit on or after the date of ratification [October 29, 2020] shall be placed on Schedule A-2.

Employees of the bargaining unit who are on Schedule A-2 at the time of ratification will continue to be paid in accordance with Schedule A-2. Employees of the bargaining unit who are on Schedule A-1 at the time of ratification will continue to be paid in accordance with Schedule A-1 until they are the successful applicant to a position at a higher Administrative Salary Level (Grade) or they (or the Association on their behalf) initiate a successful reclassification to a higher Administrative Salary Level (Grade) in which case they will be placed on Schedule A-2 and subsequently follow article 25-2 (Position Evaluation - Treatment of Incumbents).
