About ASI Engineering

ASI Engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering and asset management firm specializing in infrastructure planning, condition assessment, and lifecycle strategy for municipalities, utilities, and public agencies across Canada.

We are the implementers of CityOptima, a GIS-enabled asset management platform designed to help public sector organizations improve data quality, decision-making, and capital planning.

As CityOptima continues to grow, we are seeking a GIS Specialist to provide hands-on support implementing the platform for new clients and supporting ongoing GIS-based asset management workflows.

Position Overview

The GIS Specialist will play a key delivery role in implementing CityOptima for new municipal and utility clients. This is a practical, execution-focused position that blends GIS, data management, and client support.

You will work directly with engineers, asset managers, and municipal staff to:

  • Prepare and structure asset data
  • Configure GIS layers and attributes
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing client use of CityOptima

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building, configuring, and troubleshooting GIS solutions in real-world environments, and who is comfortable working directly with clients.

Key Responsibilities

CityOptima Implementation & Client Onboarding

  • Configure GIS layers, asset schemas, and attribute tables within CityOptima
  • Import, validate, and QA client asset data (GIS, Excel, CAD, shapefiles)
  • Support new client onboarding, including setup, testing, and go-live support
  • Assist with training sessions and user guidance for municipal staff

GIS & Data Management

  • Create and maintain spatial datasets for infrastructure assets (water, wastewater, roads, buildings, parks, fleet, etc.)
  • Perform spatial data cleanup, standardization, and quality control
  • Develop and manage symbology, maps, and dashboards for asset visualization
  • Support data versioning, updates, and ongoing maintenance

Client Support & Collaboration

  • Act as a technical GIS specialist for CityOptima clients
  • Troubleshoot GIS and data issues in collaboration with the ASI Engineering team
  • Document workflows, standards, and implementation procedures
  • Provide feedback to improve CityOptima functionality and usability

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on GIS experience in a practical delivery role
  • Spatial data formats (shapefiles, geodatabases, GeoJSON, CAD)
  • Attribute table design and data normalization
  • Experience working with infrastructure or asset data is a strong asset

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting municipal or utility clients
  • Familiarity with asset management concepts (condition ratings, lifecycle, capital planning)
  • Experience integrating GIS with databases or asset management systems
  • Comfort working with Excel, CSVs, and structured data imports
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with clients

Why Join ASI Engineering

  • Be part of a growing asset management software platform
  • Work on real municipal infrastructure projects across Canada
  • Hands-on, meaningful GIS work with clear outcomes
  • Collaborative team environment with engineers, planners, and technologists
