We are currently looking for an organized and detail-oriented person to fill our Ophthalmic Technician position. The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see Attending Physician (preliminary exam, medical history, & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures. The Ophthalmic Technician will report directly to an Ophthalmic Technician Lead of Alberta Retina Consultants.
What you'll do:
· Checking visual acuity
· Measuring intra ocular pressure
· Performing Humphrey visual field tests
· Obtaining Optical Coherent Tomography (OCT) images
· Taking IOL measurements
· Taking wide field fundus photos
· Administering eye drops
· Preparing eyes for intravitreal injections
· Documenting medical history
What you have:
· Previous experience as an ophthalmic technician or in a related field is preferred but not required
· Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and procedures is a plus
· Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide compassionate patient care
· Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
· Must be able to stand and walk for long periods

Alberta Retina Consultants was established in 1998 to meet the retina needs of Albertans. We have eight retina specialists working together, within Alberta Retina Consultants, to provide seamless care to our patients. Each holds educational appointments at the University of Alberta, while also being involved in ongoing retina research.
