In this role, you'll provide analysis, advice, and leadership to managers and staff to ensure effective implementation of WorkSafeBC's strategies, policies, regulations, practices, and services. In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond office, with some flexibility in working from your home in B.C.

What you'll do

  • Design, conduct, and manage complex research and analytical projects with respect to policy and regulation issues, including legal, practice advice, and practice development.
  • Research and develop comprehensive policy, regulation, strategic, and quality initiatives.
  • Develop policy and regulation to support legislative requirements/amendments and functional practice requirements.
  • Present draft proposals for the Enterprise Leadership Team, Board of Directors or other committees for consideration and approval.
  • Prepare discussion papers, memoranda, briefing notes, and other materials related to compensation, assessment, and prevention matters.
  • Provide supervision to departmental staff on all matters and monitor the quality of work performed in a team setting.
  • Consistently model the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for someone who can:

  • Effectively communicate in writing and when presenting information orally to a variety of audiences.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to staff.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Gather and analyze information, anticipate and recognize problems and opportunities, create and evaluate alternatives, develop solutions, and make appropriate decisions and recommendations.
  • Identify legal issues, constraints, or opportunities.
  • Plan and schedule work, develop realistic action plans, and manage time effectively.

Your background and experience

  • A post-secondary law degree or graduate degree in public or business administration, political science, economics, commerce, engineering, or biological/chemical science.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the interpretation and application of legislative, policy/regulatory and/or practice requirements.
  • A thorough and comprehensive knowledge of the Workers' Compensation Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, and WorkSafeBC policies is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis are preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Please provide two written samples of a document you have self-authored. Examples of documents include reports, research papers, policy documents, technical documents, or briefing papers that have policy or legal considerations.
