*About the South Surrey/White Rock Overdose Prevention Community Action Team*
Formed in response to the Province of British Columbia's declared overdose public health emergency in 2016, Community Action Teams (CATs) operate across the region to bring together community service providers, first responders, people with lived/living experience (PWLLE) and municipalities to develop and implement community strategies for overdose prevention.
The South Surrey/White Rock "Tides of Change" Community Action Team (CAT) endeavors to create a South Surrey/White Rock community whose members are socially connected, empathetic, and engaged in reducing stigma and opening dialogue about the unregulated drug poisoning crisis and safer drug use.
Description Of Position
Reporting to the Director of Counselling and Support, the Tides of Change Project Coordinator is a contracted position with Sources Community Resources to fulfill the outcomes established by the Tides of Change CAT.
General Responsibilities
- Facilitation of monthly WRSS "Tides of Change" Community Action Team (CAT) meetings, and coordination of project activities.
- Ensure that People with Lived Experiences of drug use and peers are involved in the strategic project planning, decision making, peer to peer support outreach, and ongoing peer committee membership.
- Grant proposal writing to secure funding based on strategic plan outlined by CAT members.
- Prepare and submit project reports on a semi-annual basis to the Community Action Initiative which funds the project.
- Advance project activities and implement the work plan laid out in the funding contract within the timelines provided.
- Ensure all projects are on track and achieving planned outcomes, where there are delays/risks raising them to the committee in a timely manner.
Program Specific Responsibilities
- Facilitate Monthly Community Action Team Meetings
- Coordinate monthly committee meetings e.g. prepare agendas and other materials, send meeting invitations, take minutes, maintain membership list.
- Identify and welcome stakeholders as needed to strengthen both initiatives
- Build and maintain effective relationships with involved community partners and PWLLE
- Provide support and/or create supportive structures for PWLLE, First Nations, Métis, and urban indigenous CAT members at our table to ensure inclusion
- Facilitate CAT meetings
- Provide honoraria to Peers/People with Lived and Living Experience of Substance Use (PWLLE) who contribute to meetings and events
- Coordinate projects and initiatives developed by the CAT
- Ensure the committee is meeting Overdose Emergency Response Center objectives, and submit progress reports to the funder as required.
- To work with committee chairs to update and maintain all committee documents, working platforms, social media accounts and correspondence.
- Maintain and facilitate new partnerships.
- Identify additional funding for the implementation of toxic drug supply crisis related projects by writing and submitting grant proposals.
- Liaise with the provincial granting organization, the Community Action Initiative
- Ensure Tides of Change CAT participates in knowledge exchange activities with other CATs across BC
- Coordinate awareness strategies as developed by the CAT
- Coordinate Tides of Change social media initiatives to promote and market objectives and deliverables as related to the OERC contract as well as assist with youth from Alex House with social media.
- Organize and facilitate community awareness events such as for International Overdose Awareness Day and White Rock Farmer's Market
- Engage community members towards principles and perspectives on substance use such as cultural safety, trauma and resilience informed practices, harm reduction, compassion, radical acceptance and inclusion.
- Evaluate and report project outcomes to grant funders and stakeholders
- Manage project budget to ensure expenditures align with grant funding expectations
- Manage petty cash and track honoraria provided to PWLLE
- Collect and synthesize outcome data
- Prepare and submit reports as required by the Community Action Initiative and Sources
Qualifications- Health-related education and/or work experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the toxic drug poisoning crisis and harm reduction initiatives
- Experience in the following areas is an asset:
- Project coordination/management
- Community development/engagement
- Substance use related services or community initiatives
- Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and central data systems
- Effectively communicate professionally, verbally and written in English
- Clear criminal record check
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
- Demonstrated understanding of the toxic drug supply crisis and the issues related to substance use, such as stigma and barriers to access to safe supply, harm reduction supplies.
- Facilitation and Public speaking experience.
- Available on evenings and weekends as needed, available in-person for meetings and project work and be able to work independently.

ASAP
*Contractor Rate:*
$30-32/hour depending on qualifications and experience.
*Contractor is responsible for submitting monthly invoices of hours of service provided and travel expenses.
