in our T&D Canada business as a Health and Safety & Environment Manager. Reporting to the Manager of Project Delivery, this position is located in our Vancouver, BC office. The overall responsibility of this role is to provide health and safety support to the construction, commissioning and project teams. This position will require you to interact with a broad range of employees and contractors at worker, supervisory and management levels at various sites throughout BC, including Vancouver Island. Success in this role requires the ability to influence and lead others through a firm grasp of health and safety fundamentals and activities in alignment with the Qualus principles and safe work practices. Also integral to this role is a strong personal safety commitment and the demonstration of self-leadership capabilities. Responsibilities

  • Provide in-field coaching, training and support to construction coordinators/managers, contractors and commissioning personnel on Safe Work Practices and all HSSE related matters
  • Provide leadership and management of other safety professionals within the organization
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to improve capabilities and capacity in areas such as Safe Work Permitting, Control of Hazardous Energy, Job Safety Analysis development, Leading Safety Conversations and Field Level Hazard Assessments
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to monitor compliance against the client set standards, policies and procedures
  • Ensure that HSSE systems, processes, programs, tools and controls are applied consistently across teams throughout the organization
  • Make recommendations for improvements to procedures and safe work practices
  • Participate in the Pre Mobilization Safety Review processes
  • Review, audit and analyze data and provide recommendations to mitigate HSSE risk to the organization
  • Participate in and provide coaching at all levels of risk analysis
  • Participate in all levels of emergency response plan development for projects, as required and coordinate with construction coordinators/managers
  • Collaborate with training and development to establish and maintain Wood HSSE training program for Transmission and Distribution in accordance with the clients safety requirements
  • Become an additional resource to project team members who are required to enter incidents into IMS or who are looking to extract information from the system
  • Leading, facilitating, or participating in Root Cause Analysis incident investigations
  • Assist in the management of workplace injuries and illnesses cases, as required, as part of the Modified Return to Work Program
  • Assist HSSE personnel to develop relevant safety communications material to Construction CSU personnel and the constructors
  • Communicate a clear vision that generates commitment and support from all employees across the program and proactively develop and promote a strong safety culture
  • Liaise with existing contractors on site to guide and support their success and understanding of HSSE policies and procedures
  • Provide ongoing support for the on boarding and transition of new contractors to facilitate their establishment on site
  • Ensure contractors are in compliance with Qualus' policies, procedures and safe work practices

Qualifications

  • Completion of NCSO Program with 5 years' experience
  • Experience managing safety personnel
  • Completion of an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, diploma or degree program from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution
  • CRSP designation
  • Worksafe BC experience
  • CSSE designation
  • Post-secondary certificate, diploma in related field and CSTS designation are required
  • Minimum of 5 years direct field experience in oil and gas/high voltage
  • Demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health & Safety legislation/regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point
  • Passion for Safety Excellence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skill with a sound understanding of root cause analysis
  • A valid, clean Class 5 driver's license is required
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, combined with the ability to drive multiple projects in an evolving, fast paced environment with changing priorities

  • HAZOP facilitation
  • Leadership skills
  • Highly developed strategic thinking and collaboration skills
  • Experience in investigation techniques and audit processes is desirable

The expected compensation range for this position is based upon several factors, including but not limited to education, qualifications, prior relevant work experience and work location.
