BUSINESS CENTER PRACTICE LEADER – ENERGY & RESOURCES (POWER DELIVERY)
As a leader, the Business Center Practice Leader functions as the technical leader in the Power Delivery business center of Canada West. The Practice Leader inspires teams, drives technical practice excellence with support from our Technical Practice Leaders (TPLs), Project Managers (PMs) and Project Technical Leads (PTLs), and holds teams accountable in support of exceptional project delivery. The Practice Leader reports to the Regional Business Leader (RBL) and is a partner to the BC Operations Leader (BCOL) to reinforce the brand of Stantec while helping our clients, colleagues and communities thrive. As the prime leader within the business center for engineering and technical services, this position acts as the main point of contact on engineering execution and technical issues. You will lead a team of multiple-discipline engineers, technologists and technical support personnel.
The primary focus for this BCPL will be leading the development and deployment of our technical delivery teams that deliver engineering, design, and project delivery excellence, with high levels of collaboration and coordination with our Integrated Design and Global Delivery Center teams. You will manage and steward continuous improvements in quality, optimizing work processes as well as ensuring the financial viability of the business center through stewarding the blend of technical resources to execute projects efficiently. This includes responsibility for the development of engineering work practices while providing direction and leadership to the engineering disciplines to ensure successful integration with the entire business center and business line leadership team.
This position will be responsible for our Power Delivery technical teams in Western Canada and will work closely with peers from across the Energy and Resources business line to lead technical delivery for our business center. As this position will work closely with the Business Centre Operations Leader, it will ideally be located in British Columbia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify opportunities to reinforce and develop Stantec's high-performance culture focused on talent, innovation, productivity, excellence, and business performance.
- Build and develop technical delivery teams across the business center, Integrated Design team, Global Design Center, and across the Energy and Resources business line to ensure we have the right people involved to make projects successful.
- Lead or assign responsibility for technical project delivery, QAQC, discipline excellence, subject matter expertise, standardization, and best practices.
- Inspire, motivate, and hold the team accountable for the delivery of innovative design solutions.
- Represent the BC at industry and community events, meetings, and conferences.
- Build strong partnerships with business leaders in other business centers and business operating units to foster collaboration, grow new expertise, increase work share opportunities, and drive growth.
- Work with client technical representatives and quality control teams to ensure that engineering and design services meet expectations.
- Monitor client satisfaction and implement improvements as needed.
- Support projects in meeting budget, schedule and technical quality with appropriate resources.
- Provide guidance to BC Leadership on training requirements for technical groups.
- Oversee hiring, performance reviews, compensation decisions, and administrative functions of your team.
- Advise BC Leadership and other teams on engineering standards and work practices.
- Participate in BC leadership team planning and goal setting.
- Lead and/or support the development of engineering work processes, standards, and quality procedures.
- Assist in the coordination of technical audits and monitor, verify, and report on team performance.
- Collaborate with business development teams to drive growth of the Energy and Resources business line by supporting business development activities, key pursuits, and MB&D strategy.
- Participate in the Go/No Go review process, contribute to win strategies and successful project execution through hands-on involvement in key pursuits, client management and project management.
- Collaborate with the Business Center Operations Leader to attract, engage and retain top talent, support career development succession planning, coaching, diversity and leadership development.
- Foster employee engagement through regular communication and BC-wide meetings.
- Support the BCOL in meeting established targets such as net revenue, gross margin, overhead, and operating income.
- Maintain project utilization target ranges from 20% to 30%.
Qualifications
Capabilities and Credentials:
- Leadership & Management: Proven leadership in delivering project excellence, managing large professional teams, and overseeing operational, financial, and people aspects.
- Business Development: Strong seller-doer with entrepreneurial mindset and deep understanding of consulting services. Skilled in responding to RFPs, EOIs, and SOQs.
- Collaboration & Communication: Highly collaborative across Integrated Design, Global Delivery Center, and E&R. Excellent communication, coordination, and team-building skills.
- Client Engagement: Demonstrated ability to build long-term client relationships and deliver sustained value. Skilled negotiator in complex situations.
- Strategic Thinking: Strong organizational and strategic planning skills with the ability to articulate vision and engage teams.
- Market Knowledge: Familiarity with market assessment techniques and industry insights. Experience across multiple service offerings and sectors is an asset.
Education and Experience
- Active P. Eng. or P.L.Eng registration with EGBC / APEGA or other suitable jurisdiction.
- Minimum 10 years of experience within the Energy & Resources industry, preferably within Power Delivery.
- Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. As this is a leadership role, the expectation is for majority in office presence. Some travel to other Stantec locations may be required. Field work/visits may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
