Why this role is important
The PC Chef plays a critical role in bringing the PC Test Kitchen to life every day. Working in partnership with the Test Kitchen Chef (Manager) and under the leadership of the Executive Chef, this role ensures the smooth execution of tastings, recipe development, preparation instructions, and product testing, while maintaining the highest culinary and brand standards.
As a key member of the culinary team, the PC Chef supports the planning and delivery of daily activities, assists in special events, and provides hands-on expertise to showcase Loblaw Brands. This role bridges creativity and execution, contributing innovative culinary ideas, developing engaging presentations, and ensuring operational excellence in the Test Kitchen.
Collaboration is essential—this role works with cross-functional partners in Product Development, Product Management, and Marketing to build strong and sustainable relationships that support business objectives.
What You'll Do
- Daily Culinary Execution: Prepare food product samples for sensory panels and tastings. Develop recipes, usage tips, and packaging content that bring our products to life.
- Preparation Instructions Leadership: Develop and test clear, accurate preparation instructions in partnership with the Senior Copywriter. Ensure instructions are consumer-friendly and aligned with brand standards. Work closely with the culinary team to support accountability to timelines and quality standards.
- Support for Product Developers: Partner with the Test Kitchen Chef to coordinate daily tastings, concept research, and recipe development for seamless project execution.
- Event Support: Assist in the planning and execution of executive tastings, kitchen tours, and luncheons. Contribute culinary expertise by preparing dishes, writing menus, and presenting to diverse audiences.
- Brand Representation: Ensure Loblaw Brands are represented with excellence in all menus, recipes, tastings, presentations, and events.
- Innovation & Trends: Monitor industry trends and culinary innovations, sharing insights that inspire the team and influence product and recipe development. Prepare visually engaging presentation decks that showcase culinary concepts, and work with the culinary team to bring these presentations to life with recipes and sample preparation.
- Operational Support: Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient Test Kitchen by supporting equipment maintenance, storage, and sanitation in collaboration with the Test Kitchen Chef.
- Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, freelance chefs, and cross-functional partners—including Social Content, Product Development, Product Management and Marketing—to support seamless execution of culinary projects and deliverables.
- Culture: Support a strong team culture by fostering inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging across all interactions.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of professional culinary experience; corporate chef or test kitchen experience is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Culinary Arts or related studies.
- Experience supporting team accountability to project timelines, deliverables, and quality standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Creativity, flexibility, and a positive mindset in adapting to new challenges.
- A curious mindset with a passion for exploring new culinary ideas, trends, and techniques.
- Experience coordinating and executing culinary events such as tastings, tours, and executive luncheons.
- Excellent presentation skills (both written & verbal), including proficiency in building professional and visually compelling decks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Demonstrated ability in recipe writing, food content creation, and culinary storytelling.
Additional Information / Working Conditions
- This role is primarily scheduled Monday–Friday; however, there may be occasional early-day, or evening requirements based on business needs. These occur rarely and will be communicated in advance.
