Reporting to the Supervisor, Roads and Services, this position is responsible for maintaining the Town's infrastructure through the performance of a variety of labour activities.

The primary responsibilities for this position include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Installation, maintenance and or operation of storm water and drainage facilities (storm sewers, storm water management ponds, culverts, ditches, etc.).
  • Maintenance of municipal cemeteries (ground maintenance, opening and closing of graves).
  • Operate and maintain equipment, machinery and tools (loader, backhoe, tractor, dump/sand/plow trucks, etc.).
  • Operate winter maintenance equipment for snow plowing, sanding, salting, and snow removal.
  • Maintenance of roadways (road surface, sidewalks, boulevards, curbs, lighting, signage).
  • Manual labour
  • Data entry, record keeping and complete reports as necessary.
  • Work in conjunction with various departments and ministries.
  • Assist in addressing public inquiries, concerns, requests and complaints, as required.

The successful candidate will have as a minimum the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent post-secondary education.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and machinery (minimum one year).
  • Knowledge of practices and methods applicable to civil construction and construction materials and their use.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety requirements of the job.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS.
  • Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment including articulating municipal tractor, backhoe, loader, dump truck, etc.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of performing heavy physical labour at various job locations.
  • Ability to respond within 30 minutes to a call out when on standby
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow specific instructions.
  • Willingness to participate in the continuous development of skills and knowledge related to the industry and successfully complete all training associated with the position on an ongoing basis.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills when dealing with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $29.46 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
